They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

No one is justifying DV, but there is more to the story than just the police report.  There are alot of things missing from that report.  Long and short of it, is no one really knows what happened that night.  Charges were dropped, because the evidence to support wasn't there, and then she recanted.  Later apoogized at the presser to Ole Miss. and stated that everything Beard did, was in self defense.  So do we believe her statement to police over that statement later..............that is the issue.

Wow. What a reasonable post.

Exactly, there is always 2 sides to every story. I am of the mind set, innocent until proven guilty but there are some that are guilty until proven innocent

This isn't a court of law, though. I agree innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This is also a PR and values issue for a University that is over 50% female. The message sent is that winning basketball games is more important than women being safe.

There isn't two sides to the story here. There was absolutely a physical altercation between Beard and his girlfriend. This wasn't a "he hit me...no I didn't" type deal. He absolutely battered her and then she later claimed it was in "self-defense". Forgive me for not wanting someone who has laid hands on a woman coaching IU basketball.

I did say that. I think he has a chance, he's down the list but saying no chance is dumb on my part. He would have to be vetted and OK'd by Whitten but there is a way to get there. Hopefully, it doesn't come to that but I'm not saying there is no chance.

Didn't Whitten squash the football hire with a questionable past?

The media PR would be tough at the beginning. But it would go away once we started winning.

Most of it.  But the reputation damage is done with all sorts of articles and interviews about IU and their new coach who also has DV issues.  It's not fair, but it becomes "IU is okay with DV."

Then there is the ongoing risk of an embarrassing relapse.  If that happened, Scott and Pam are fired.

It's just hard for a big time program/university to associate itself with someone who has DV allegations.  Maybe it's not fair, but it's just how it is for any big brand program.

I'm not making this hire.  If I was, and Beard was begging for the job, I'd talk with him and have him walk me through what happened, play the recording, get PI/police opinions, etc.  Maybe there is an exonerating angle in there.  My gut is there isn't and he screwed up, but I would check.

An insider on the Rivals board said it had more to do with him still being under investigation and a potential lawsuit/NCAA hearing still looming.

Beard isn’t my first choice, but slamming him because his liquored girlfriend called the police and had him arrested and for domestic violence causing him to be charged as a criminal is b.s. The charges were investigated and DROPPED. He was punished for something he was not found guilty of by losing all that money and losing his job at a p4 school. Would Ole Miss hire him and pay him $3.4 million dollars + incentives if the charges were legitimate? Would parents let there kids play for him? When couples get drunk and fight this crap happens to common folks everyday. Just because he is a high profile individual that’s responsible for young men it’s under a magnifying glass. Again he’s is innocent of said charges. If someone is guilty of beating women I’d be the first person to burn them at the stake, trust me.

Beard will fail here just like Sampson did. Just like Beard did at Texas.

There’s a reason no legit programs looked to hire either last year. Small-time miscreants that don’t have what it takes to win at a major program.

Nobody is calling Sampson, not because of IU, but because there is literally zero reason for him to leave Houston... He's 69 years old and he's built a great program at Houston -- he has them competing for Titles every year. No reason for him to leave.

He’s been there 11 years. Nobody would hire him at a big job during that time. And he’s went to one FF, so I don’t know about all the title talk.

Serious question for the holier than thou crowd. If beard is hired will you quit watching and supporting IU out of principle? I would think morally you would have too if what you say holds any water.

I did it for Woodson... so, yeah, I could and would.

I got the game day wrong, it is Saturday. I've seen others get it wrong, too. As adamant fans (all of us on here), to get the game day wrong for a ranked home game in February is quite the indictment on the program's standing. I'm at the point personally that if my kids ask me to do something fun, rather than watch IU, I will gladly go to Chuck E Cheese - because watching IU fires me up and quite literally ruins my day (and next day).

Sure...Houston was the first school that came calling. But he's built a winning program, he's older, he's a future Hall of Famer..there''s no reason for him to leave. Houston is his spot...and if you don't think they're competing for Titles every year...I'm not sure what to tell you. They got another dominant team this year too. Ranked #5...and Houston of all places.
