They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Im ready for a coach that doesn't answer every damn question with, "Just gotta keep workin'." That's not an answer! Thats an answer someone gives when they don't know jack about what they are attempting to do. Never once do you hear any actual technical answers as to what the staff or players are doing to correct things. I literally question his basketball knowledge outside of what HE could do as a player.

Mike Woodson has forgotten more about basketball than anybody on this board has ever known. Coincidentally, that also explains our choice of play style, lol

For the record, I agree about wanting a coach who can be more substantive and visible in media. That said, I don’t expect much real X’s and O’s or technical responses in post game interviews which is basically the only time Woody speaks publicly as far as I’m aware. I look forward to having energy behind our brand again thanks to a new coach, very unsatisfied with his results, but don’t doubt for a second he could talk circles around anybody here (certainly me) when it comes to basketball. How current his knowledge is for the modern game, different conversation entirely obviously…

Not really agree with ScottyR it little bit north but mostly eastern central.  Fort Wayne is north.

As an objective third party, this is the correct take… firmly eastern central. A county or two south away from being north east. Lol

Baffles me that back to back 25 pt losses can literally be erased by 1 win by 1 pt against a somewhat average team and a few days off after. My memory isn't THAT short yet. I am to the point where I'm realizing he's here for the remainder of the season but im still hoping he hangs it up at years end.

The problem is that some people believes anything that is said on here. Nobody really knows what is actually happening if anything behind the scenes but the fans want to believe anything at this time. So now you think things changed because of a win just is baffling to me.

As concerned as IU is about the stupid optics there's a very real chance they'd say "we can't fire a guy that played here and has 3 tournaments in 5 years". They've lowered the standards so much that just making a 68 team field warranted a raise.

The more losses now the better for the program long term; assuming IU makes a serious hire, which is another matter.

3 in 4 years he hasn't been here 5 years but it seems like it

The more he wins more likely he stays period imo. So for those who say lets make the tourney and get rid of Woodson I doubt it's that simple. If he makes the tourney I day 50% chance he is back unless he takes a massive payday to leave. A tourney berth gives quinn all the ammo he needs considering expectations aren't high.

I think he stays no matter what.

The way I look at it is just because dolson hired cig it doesn't mean squat. I doubt quinn cares about football and did not hamstring dolson. But when his buddy is involved seems to be a different matter. I am still not convinced dolson has free reign to hire a new coach. Look at the last 25 years at iu. Total incompetence.

So now because of one win vs OSU your sources are now saying he is staying. What happened to talking to assistants about being the interim coach.

I just think you enjoy messing with fans on this site. It is like you put out some cheese to see the mice come out to eat but it actually is decon to kill them.

I think that if IU loses the rest of the games in25+ point blowouts, he'll stay. They'll look at his record setting ways and extend him. The contract will give him a $20M/year raise. It'll be a "Woodson's choice" (his choice of when to leave) contract which will be for 30 year and means that the university will be unable to replace him no matter what. Even if he dies they won't be able to replace him. At the end of that 30 years, he (or his estate) will receive a bonus of $2B.

This is the power that Buckner has.

You're right, @Hornsby, making up ridiculous **** that won't happen is fun!

1. I told some people yesterday that I would be more positive so I'm doing that

2. I just wanted to feel what it is like to be Hornsby for a few minutes.

Barring a final four run I think he's gone at the end of the season. I think he knows that and so do the players.

Sort of unpopular take but I don’t see a problem with Hornsby’s posts in this thread… some of it I just find to be absurdist humor that gets at the idea of just how much of a crap show it is behind the scenes with things like Ferguson giving him more money lol. I don’t see why everyone acts like it’s such a foregone conclusion he is gone. IU has a bad history with decision making. We are in January. It may take a miracle run for him to come back but the admin created these conditions where fans are now asking about the legitimacy of rooting for IU to lose in the short term if it means long term benefit.

Leal, Galloway, Hatton, Ballo, and Goode all are out of eligibility at the end of the year.  Only one recruit coming in an he seems to be an IU guy first, Woodson second.  Players with eligibility left:  Rice (2 years), Carlyle (2 years), MM (2 years), Reneau (1 year), Newton (3 years), Cupps (3 years).  Will be debatable which of those players would be back with or without Woodson.  Point is, there is going to be tons of personnel changes with or without Woodson being retained.  Likely Dolson has a short list already and the plan will be to move on very quickly in order to use the portal.

Losing games is the way we get rid of him. It’s as simple as that.

If it were that simple, he wouldn't have been back after last season.

Anyway, I don't begrudge anyone for what they are rooting for because what you root for has zero bearing on the result.  I can't find myself rooting for losses but I also can accept the consequences of losses if we move on.  And if I root for a win and we do win and Woodson stays....me rooting for a win had no impact on the result anyway.
