They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

I think Hova already made this reference in the thread but if that is actually the dynamic playing out, totally feels like a season finale for the IU basketball version of Succession lol. Somehow despite the past 25 years... I have hope we can enter a new golden age for IU athletics. If we make the right hire and that comes to fruition... a lot of the thanks goes largely to Curt Cignetti and IUFB IMO.

Dolson and Whitten too, obviously... if they get it done.

Spot on.  Cig was huge, assuming he likely works out, which appears to be the case!, we've got the biggest and most important sport moving in the right direction.

Cig also demonstrates the proper Org Chart.  He reports to Scott, but also has a good relationship and support from Pam.  I never hear about what donors or trustees want with FB, the donors just send money without a peep like they should, and the trustees stay out of it.

We've got the blueprint.  Time to implement it again with basketball.

Here is a IU men’s basketball program concern:  Not really interested in watching this version of men’s basketball for rest of season. 1.  IU men’s basketball is a very frustrated group 2.  Frustration is growing parallel to a pressure cooker which somewhat came out in Illinois game.  Pushing and shoving and coach Woodson dismissal of a sissy shove by IU player when he tried to jump over top of other players to shove Illinois player to the ground.  A dumpster fire considering everything involved.  3.  There is no organized team currently and players are confused and coaches are lost.  This is a fragile situation that could get out of control on the floor.  With continued and constant trailing anywhere from 15 to 30 points during games expect frustration to grow and tempers to flare.  The team including coaches lack intellect.  IU men’s basketball in total is currently a lost program

Conclusion:  an all out brawl is not out of the question.  Plus behaviors both on and off court are suspect.  This has potential to lead IU men’s basketball to a probationary status for the future.
Close scrutiny should already be implemented and preparation for corrective action Now.  (Before something happens that IU does not want).

Well, you all may remember me fondly as the Woodson defender from last spring.  Let it be known that I am now 100% firmly planted in the "Fire Mike Woodson" camp.  You all were right.  I was wrong, and I'm man enough to admit that.  I was at the game on Tuesday.  The vibe was off before the game even started.  Get rid of him now.

User name no longer checks out...

I remember that day last year when we all got on a burner. That was a hell of a good time till it wasn't

I remember that day too... when that Indy Star article citing an anonymous source hit, this place / the IUBB internet blew up.

Could not believe we weren't hearing from Scott Dolson...

Where is Scott Dolson? We still have not heard from Scott Dolson.

... fun times going nuts over this program.

I just don't understand if the move is already approved what good could come out of not moving on prior to the Ohio State game.

Maybe needed more time to figure out logistics of who would be the interim, how to message the decision, etc... ? Hopefully

As Chris has stated, this stuff takes awhile to get in order.  This is a major institution, and they just do not change directions on a dime.  This is like changing direction of a big tanker.  It takes awhile to get everything in order.  At this point it should not really matter to any of us WHEN this happens as long as it happens.

This is a funny watch

I've said this in the last few games, but I'm not sure why Woodson has lately had such a short leash for Mgbako.  It's not like there are options that have been stepping up.  His shooting has been off but his ceiling is much higher than guys he's getting pulled for.  The best way for a shooter to lose confidence is to pull him if he's missing shots.

The other night when he got pulled after few minutes when he was 0-7 and then sat the rest of the half was a horrible coaching decision.  The looks weren't bad but he was ice cold.  Pull him quick -- say 0 of 4 -- coach him up, get him shots going to the rim to get him some confidence -- but basically what you've told him by sitting him is you can't play unless you make shots.

I suspect Scott and Pam need to show they’re in charge now and the stupid idiots are either gone (Quinn) or will be boxed into the background (other trustees/donors).

The IU job has some great things going for it, but I’ve always worried coaches see how we manage our program and it’s a big negative.

Yep. I changed my profile pic to QB when everything went haywire last Spring and QB's influence was obvious.

Not changing it until the King is officially dethroned.

I absolutely love what I'm hearing, but I also loved what I was hearing last Spring, until I didn't. QB needs to lose his influence.

I would LOVE to have a reason to change my profile pic...

Wow.

For a university athletic department to do this while funding all their scholarships through donations, that’s insane.

It’s anticipation of the salary cap coming. $20M. That’s coming from the department budget not NIL.

His substitutions have never made any sense. It’s like throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. It also seems like guys get in the doghouse and others he ignores completely. Carlysle continuing to get minutes and putting up an exorbitant number of shots is baffling to me. He either A. Doesn’t listen to the coaches, or B. woody dgaf about him jacking up terrible shots.

Then you get someone like Mack who gets benched for missing open/good shots. Or Woody barking at Gallo when it seems like he’s the only one hustling at times.

Yes of course, but for an athletic department that brings in a **** of money, I’m surprised they are actually laying employees off. I figured that would only occur at the lower P4 level.

Agree. I think it's just me and you bud.
Because if this is how they handle it they suck worse than we feared.
The iu administration has proved over the last 20 years to always do the unthinkable. Keeping Woodson on is going to happen.
