Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Hope. My ~20 years as an IU fan have nearly killed all of it, but there’s still a little left. A fifth Woodson season would finish my hope off, though.

I am not taking about next season just the talk of them firing him right now

I’m just throwing this out there for speculation. Clearly there are people more in the know than me, but the following crossed my mind. If I recall correctly, when Mike Davis announced he was stepping down at the end of the season, he did so at a post game press conference after a win, I believe against Penn St. I wonder, win or lose, if history might repeat itself Wednesday night and we get a statement after the NW game that retirement is happening at season’s end. The hope from all parties involved being that that announcement will be enough to silence most of the boos, negativity, etc to get through the next two months.

My question is why does everybody just assumes these guys actually know anything and there were actually these discussions going on.

Because they have emails to prove it. Just kidding lol.

IU is going to allow the narrative that Indiana fans are awful to grow if they allow Woodson to coach anymore games at Assembly Hall

So, what does that mean in terms of action?

He’s not coaching this team next year. Zero chance. Any worry I had about that is gone. This team stinks, and is probably going to finish sub .500 or right at it in the B1G. All you had to do was watch us last night. It was two bad teams and one has to win. The B1G has 18 teams. Half of them are mediocre to bad, we were always going to out talent and/or ride a hot hand/or opposing team egg to a few wins.

And if they pull off the impossible and win like 11+? Hey great! Enjoy the wins, hope for a decent tournament showing (not get nuked). He’s still not going to be coaching this team next season.

As bad as we've looked, it's hard for me to believe they will fire Woody in season when he's sitting at 14-5, 5-3 Big Ten. Even though we all understand that record is a bit of fool's gold.

I think he retires after the season.

100%. All the interim coach talk and mid-season firing is just wishful thinking (imo) which ignores everything the U/Trustees have done with Woodson to date.

He’ll be given the rest of the season to accomplish whatever he can. Then he’ll retire, in all likelihood.

What insiders are told and relay to us isn't final the majority of the time. People have to remember you guys aren't in the room as the final decision is being made, but are in the know with the overall processes leading up to the final decision. Most of us are aware your word isn't law or binding but you're connected enough to not be wrong with what you're being told and feeding us. At the end of the day those in the room could ultimately decide to go a completely different route and just not share it until the decision is formally announced by them. We do appreciate the info you guys can and do share though.

My question is how do we know they are actually are in the know because they will never say how they are affiliated with the program

Some people make things up because they like attention. Some people pass off other people’s information. Other people actually are connected, but things are fluid and even good information can change. People are free to believe or not believe whoever they want. I know there are some people I believe, some people I don’t believe, and some people I just don’t know enough about to believe/not believe. As long as the season ends with Mike Woodson leaving his job I don’t really care when it happens. Sooner rather than later would be great because we’d know it’s for sure happening, but I’d personally be surprised if it happens before the season’s over. A retirement announcement could happen, but I don’t expect a mid season termination.

I think what can be confusing though is when certain posters continue to state things as facts that are nothing more than their opinion/belief. It can be hard to decipher what is credible from what is an opinion because of the way they are stated. Many of us know who those are but there are a lot of new people here that don’t know the difference

I don't know how if Woodson is 15-5 (6-3) you can justify firing him mid season. I wanted him fired last season and every day since I determined that I wanted him fired. However, I can recognize the bad optics of firing a coach with that record mid season regardless of who the wins are against. He will either retire mid season for "health" reasons or he'll be let go/retire at season's end.

In the know can take on a lot of different forms and the telephone game is delayed and loses accuracy, details and context along the way.

Well you'll just have to read their post history regarding matters like these and decide for yourself if you trust them or not. Up to you. Either way just keep in mind that what they say is usually never final. As I said they are not in the room as the decisions are ultimately being made, just passing along what's being told to them. You have to take that info with a grain of salt friend.

I for one and I am sure many others on here concur what WeeDerkaNaut just stated.  It’s good info and if the outcome isn’t exactly what’s been stated, I for one won’t be part of the mob that comes after you with their pitch forks and machetes, lol wink wink.  We are all good!
