Now that is how an IU coaching search goes. We thought we had Hurley and Oates lined up but instead, let me introduce you to Hall & Oates

They put on a great concert! I saw them twice, once at the old Market Square Arena and at Assembly Hall back in the 80's! lol

Have we really devolved to Richard Pitino Jr.?

If the coach at New Mexico was named anything but Richard Pitino Jr I suspect this board would want IU to take a long, hard look at him. He's 66-26 over the course of the last 2.5 seasons and has a decent chance of being ranked here in the next couple hours.

I was just sitting at my classroom desk this morning preparing for the HS day and, of course, a day of coaching rumors! lol.....

I wonder if there have been any CRAZY IU fans who have tried to reach out (emails, twitter, etc.) to Brad and his family about coming back home to Indiana to live and coach!

Please don't do that because that would only be a negative. Our fans need to stop contacting players and coaches because we t makes us look bad especially if it is negative

If we're going to throw out names like Jerrod Calhoun, Ben McCollum, and Brad Brownell as serious candidates....Richard Pitino Jr absolutely deserves a mention.

After the last 8 years of coaching this fanbase has had to put up with pretty much every coach with a pulse deserves a mention. Even the 90 year old B1G studio analyst deserves a mention (only half joking, Beilein)

If we're gonna talk Richie Pitino Jr., how 'bout a guy who's been to five Sweet 16s, three Elite Eights and took TWO schools to the Final Four.

And on the way to one of those, kicked our a$$.

And he's only 75.  LOL!

(BTW, something I did not realize -- he coached 11 seasons at Bowling Green. When he left, he was replaced by ... our good friend Dan Dakich!)

You may as well throw Armond Hill on the list too! Oh my bad, you said every coach with a pulse!

I mean when Brad Stevens inevitably says no and Dusty May signs his extension here in the next couple of weeks, guys like Ben McCollum and Jerrod Calhoun not only become realistic candidates but likely options. Not sure why those guys are a definitive yes and Pitino Jr an emphatic no? Of those three, only one has coached at the Power 5 level (with some moderate success) and taken a team to the NCAAT. Hint, it's not Calhoun or McCollum. I don't think Richard Pitino Jr is going to be the coach here but to act like he's not worthy of discussion is asinine.

Steve Alford was 76-26 his first three years at New Mexico.  Let’s throw him in, too.

If you're Dusty and even remotely interested in the upcoming opening at IU, why even entertain the idea of an extension mid-season? If you think IU is a legitimate option, you're telling your AD "Hey I appreciate that vote of confidence, bu I need to focus on the season. Let's pick this up after the tournament. "

It shows his hand, sure, but he's got all the leverage in the world if they're trying to extend him now to keep him from IU.

Nah, he's proven time and time again he can't coach at the P5 level.

I'm not going to hold Pitino Jr's tenure at Minnesota at the ages of 30-38 against him in the sense that he doesn't deserve a P5 job again. He gained valuable experience at a tough place to win and is re-inventing himself down at New Mexico and has done a phenomenal job. He'll be coaching at the P5 level somewhere next year.

Because I would never turn down a $1-2 million/yr pay bump from my current employer?

Yeah his security guy at IUPD has been telling people that Woodson told him this is his last season because IU wants Stevens.

Did the security guy tell Woodson that we wanted Stevens 4 years ago and not Woody. Woody scratches his head and say no I was first choice.

I agree with that. And I’m willing to bat around absolutely anybody because every great coach in the history of sports has at some point in their career not been viewed as great. The Bob Knight who got the IU job wouldn’t get it now. Beilein’s a HOFer and didn’t get a HM job until he was 51. Underwood’s a top 3 guy in the B1G and didn’t get 1 until he was 50. Bill Belichick straight up failed in Cleveland. Not saying some random dude in the MEAC is the right guy here, almost certainly not, just saying record and name recognition are not close to the sole criterion to find the Guy. That’s what makes this thought exercise fun.
