Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Did you even read the article? Because nowhere in it does it claim what you claim that it says, i.e., that “Steven’s, Rick Pitino and Nate Oates all turned down the job.”

The Pitino stuff is especially laughable. It’s all based on Pitino’s comments from this tweet. https://twitter.com/mikerodak/status/1371902704361091076?s=61&t=rO3XWU_xhZIobOsxbDJjYQ

You can’t “turn down” a job offer you never received, and there is a 0.0% chance that iu would offer Pitino the job.

I came here to end my career at Iona lol

Interestingly, I didn’t see the Bozich article ever mention Pitino. After Steven’s and Matta it says, “Other names who are believed to be under consideration are Texas Tech coach Chris Beard, former Michigan coach John Beilein; Pacers assistant coach Calbert Cheaney; Baylor coach Scott Drew; Eric Musselman of Arkansas and Michigan State assistant coach Dane Fife, a former IU player.”

Two years later he leaves for St. John’s lol. Idk what’s worse, believing that IU offered Pitino the job, or believing that Pitino would’ve said no if IU offered it to him.

Did you read my post? I said “I don’t know if he’s going to keep his job or not.” Does that sound like I’m defending him?

My objection is the incessant, and imo over the top bashing of him, or any coach for that matter.. Someone said that I am just looking for ways to defend him.. which I am not. But when it’s insinuated that players are going out to the bars after the games and they are just following Woodson’s example because he was pictured having a glass of wine. That’s not reaching for it?

This thread has gone on for 250 pages of people basically saying the same things, and attaboying each other. Open it up hoping that there is something new to learn. Instead it’s the same guys saying the same stuff. The hump jokes were old on page 2.

It is funny you left HSN because if the negativity and people criticizing your stance in Woodson

Now you are here acting the same way and be defensive when someone questions your stance.

The very first paragraph says that they expressed no interest in the job. That wouldn’t have happened out of the blue unless inquiries were made.

My point being, this was more than a”wink wink, you’re hired Woody” process.

Beilein would have taken the job. No way he was ever offered.

The article I quoted it’s in the second paragraph

No kidding. We nuked the program over too many text messages, there's not a chance IU ever considered Pitino.

Just because they expressed no interest in the job doesn't mean IU inquired about either.

This is kind of a weird article. This guy says Stevens, Pitino and Oats expressed no interest in the job. But where does that come from? I don't recall Pitino or Oats ever being in the mix. Could be that tweet was the source for Pitino, and perhaps at a post-game presser someone mentioned IU to Oats and he said he had no interest -- because that's what everyone says until someone reaches out with an offer.

Not sure how credible this guy is. I, probably like most here, followed the coaching search pretty closely and I don't recall ever hearing Oats or Pitino mentioned in connection with IU. Many on this board expressed an interest in both, but I'm not sure IU ever did.

They didn’t!

I can’t believe that they would all 3 come out and say something without having been approached first

I can.

I went on record as saying I wasn't interested in the job -- and nobody from IU had reached out to me (though a few days after Archie was fired, my cellie was on the fritz, so I might have missed a couple calls).

They expressed “no interest” in the job because they were asked about it by reporters. Pitino was asked about it in a press conference before his team’s NCAA tournament game. In the same answer he said that Iona was his last coaching stop, and then he left two years later. Do you really think a school with IU’s holier than thou attitude would have offered the job to one of the sleaziest coaches in college basketball?

I wish

They hired and put up with Sampson while he let the inmates run the asylum. So, yes.

13 years before 2021, and then they fired him and completely nuked the program. So no, they didn’t put up with Sampson, though they should have
