Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Recommended Posts

Crean's 2nd to last we won the B1G lol
That team had alot of offensive fire power and we had a pretty easy schedule that year. Woodson unlike crean will not be able to generate a high powered offense and the defense is not good.

I think one former basketball manager would love to hire another former basketball manager as the next coach. It's just getting everyone else on board.

In your opinion, is there any chance this happens after this year? Have you heard anything? I need to know whether to have hope or not.

I've posted this before, multiple times:
The 'real' cost of the buyout would not be $12.6 million after this year.
  • The buyout regresses considerably immediately after next year; to $4.2 million (50% of the remaining $8.4 m). Woody is well-aware of this.
    • Because of this, if he feels like he is done, he would agree to $6-8 million after this year. Because when the reduced buyout is factored in? He would be coaching next year for effectively nothing if he got an $8 million buyout now.
  • That larger buyout figure is based on an extended payment of the total. If Woody were to get the entire amount up front? He would very likely agree to a reduced number. See: Allen, Tom.
  • IU will take that reduced number and finance it over many years.
    • Say the final buyout cost is $6.75 million.
    • Now add the $1.25 million it would take to buyout Dusty May, for a total of $8 million,
    • Finance it over 20 years for a principal + interest total of about $12 million.
    • That would equal $600,000 annually for 20 years.
    • Now pay Dusty $3.6 million a year.
  • Guess what? We just got Dusty May starting next year for the same annual as we are paying Mike Woodson.
So back to my previous posts; I am still on record that IF this season ends kinda badly, I'd bet it's more likely May is the coach than Woodson come June, 2024.

This guy maths.

IMO as of today I don't think so. As of today, I think he gets next year. But things change. So we'll see. No one is happy

Woody is too stubborn to retire with out a heavy paycheck. In his mind it’s the injuries that got us. He will stand his ground because he got us in the tournament his first two years and swept Purdue last year. My argument is he should have been more prepared.

I noticed after the Purdue game he mentioned X injury several times and that were very young a few times. He did say we're so young we're still trying to get to know each other.

Gotta come down to pride at this point. Thinking he can fix things and protect his legacy with the school.

On the other hand… if he doesn’t… it will backfire in a large way.

And with possibly 7 new players next year, we'll be getting to know each other next February as well.  LOL

My post was NOT that we should keep Woodson/sticking up for Woodson in any way.

But holy s*** man, we won 2 B1G titles in 4 years, 3 Sw16s in 5 years ----as a fan does anyone just enjoy anything, it wasn't THAT bad? Rooting for us to lose at the end of Crean? Idk hard for me to respect that mindset, at all.

6 of the last 7 years have been so abundantly worse than Crean. Sans last season.

Unless Woody is just fed up with life as a college coach I don’t see any way he doesn’t come back next year. He could lose out and come back for a do-over year just on the strength of being a beloved former player.

Nobody’s been fired for performance from IU after 3 years in a hundred years of basketball.

I will never root for us to lose! We need to keep some momentum for the next season with or without Woodson as mentioned before.
In our 10 losses we have been blown out in 8 of them. Not even competitive. I don't remember any iu coach ever getting blow out this much. Maybe creans first year but that is about it.

You should look at Matta's resume when he got canned.  And Crean had burned every bridge under the sun.  His recruiting was completely finished.

Lol he brought in 3 Pros (Bryant, Morgan, and OG) 2 years before he was canned. Get real.

I think the point of my post was lost in translation.

Well, this just sucks. Yeah, he will probably find more talent and bring in some shooting, but we are still gonna play two bigs, not shoot any 3's and force feed the post. Just uninspiring, and we are gonna be rebuilding watching Sisley and Mullins dunk on us after they commit to Purdue.

Appreciate the math. I would guess the conversation with the agent for May/someone else would include something like this: "Ok, Scott, in the last 8 years you've fired a guy the year after he won the conference, was B1G COY and took you to the Sweet Sixteen. Then you fired the next guy after 4 years. Then you forced out the next guy, a Hoosier legend, mind you, after 3 years and 2 tournament appearances. So, your job is officially a meat grinder. Now, let's talk buyout numbers."  You better get the next dude dead right, because I guarantee he's gonna have a Calipari-esque buyout.

Dolson didn't fire Crean, that was Glass

This year's roster was deficient. Gaping holes at the guard spot, and an unused scholarship. Heck of a way to perform for "your dream job".

He. Just. Needs. To. Go. And I really don't care where, just not at Indiana.

Would love you to define "no one". Just fans or administration, too? How far does the unhappiness go up the ladder?
