But it’s not like he doesn’t provide anything on offense.  It’s more like negative in that he doesn’t do anything even when the opportunity is there.  When they watch film do not say “Gabe we want you to shoot there.”  Or “Gabe good opportunity to drive to the hoop.”   It’s like he’s afraid to do anything.

Same with Gunn, but reverse?  Trying to slow him down and get better shots.

Yes…Gabe needs to be more proactive in shooting. If he doesn’t shoot then it’s moot playing him. He needs to get up several shots a game.

Regarding Gunn, he just needs to sit on the bench.

You’re saying it.  But are the coaches?

Exactly.  What do you want?  A system built around 3 and 4 stars who develop into a team greater than the sum of its parts?   Or keep chasing the 5 stars that so far have been unable to take us very far?

Our coach isn’t good enough to win without 5 star talent.

Yup. The whole system needs to be completely changed. We’re now ranked #100 in kenpom and I believe dead last in 3 point attempts…and I’m not speaking conference, It’s dead last in the ENTIRE country. This is worse than Archie ball.

I believe Archie hired him (Woodson’s staff is mainly Archie’s guys)..and yes, his background looks to be in football.

Miller brought him in, he worked with Dayton for a few years before IU. He was involved with Ignition APG and they worked with more than just football players.

I put the numbers on here, there wasn't much of a difference before and after Marshall.

Woody’s got a sore kiester this morning. He is getting smacked/pummeled from every quarter. I must say it is well deserved.

i really, really, as we all did, wanted it to work out in the worst way. Sadly, not happening.

l fear the USS Woody has run aground and sunk.

Hope has turned into a 4 letter word.

Call me very irrevocably despondent at this point.

He did. Agreed but he is out and doesn’t see he is part of the problem. He wouldn’t play anymore if we had any guard options.

Development is not all on coaches either. Listened to Elston and Watford talk about this. The guys that developed did it outside of practice.

Yep... guys like Oladipo and Sheehey to name two...

Yup...the writing seems to be on the wall that Gunn and Banks are transfers. Whether they do it on their own or are nudged out is moot. Their lack of development has been a big miss. Honestly, I'm not so sure it's on the coaches as much as they're just not good enough to be playing high major ball. Call me skeptical but I was never impressed with either of them.

What. scares me is that I expect the staff to have four open scholarships outside of Liam this Spring - 13th Open Scholly, Walker, XJ, and two transfers (seems reasonable at this point). Not sure I have confidence in the staff to reshape the backcourt and have contributors with those four grants.

And Hulls, OG, etc. all the guys from that era. They all put in the work outside of practice. We only have a couple who are.

You cant teach desire.

No, but you can recruit it. Part of a coach’s job is to identify such players and bring them in.

I think it'll be more than that. Ware likely NBA bound, I wouldn't be the least surprised if Gunn, Banks and Mgbako transfer out. That would be up to 8 not at all surprising to me.

Then does Leal use his extra year? Or Galloway? Next season could be ugly.

Yeah, it’s gonna be something to witness.

Honestly, seems likely we're filling AT LEAST 6, more likely 7-9 spots in the spring/portal. I'd rather let whoever the next guy is try his hand at constructing that roster than give Woody and Co have another run at just rolling the balls out and hoping/praying.

Without a doubt, my four was a probably a bit too optimistic - I could easily see a scenario where there are 7-8 open grans in April.

It could make this season seem like a success.

Does anyone here really expect this staff to have that much turnover, then A) put together a well constructed roster and B) get the most out of it? I sure don't. They did neither of those this season; they knew they needed a guard and not only did get one but left a ride open.

Yep.  The biggest issue was the lack of solid backup plans.  Seemed like almost every guard they attempted to get was coveted by a lot of high level programs.

IU is easily a tournament team with decent level guard play.   In the offseason IU added a 5 star transfer, a McDonald's All-American Duke decommit, a former MAC freshman of the year, and a fifth year player who is in the rotation of a final four team.  On paper, that is a great group.  But not a single one of them addressed the biggest hole on the team.
