I don't believe there is any reason to lock it at this time. No one has gotten out of line (yet)... Also, just because he may be going to UCONN or he does commit to them, that does not warrant locking a thread. Quote
DChoosier Posted October 17, 2024 Posted October 17, 2024 Who knows. Maybe he won’t get the playing time he expects next year and we get him for 1/2 price the following year…LOL SlammySammy, Hoosierfanyuh and Banksyrules 1 2 Quote
go iu bb Posted October 17, 2024 Posted October 17, 2024 We just have too much talent that could return and that scared him off. We didn't really want him, the coaching staff must have backed off. He's not that good anyways, very overrated. He might be a good shooter, but how is his entry pass? Probably not up to snuff for IU. UConn obviously cheated. Paying players is allowed now but they must have cheated some other way. He didn't want to play in the B1G. Banksyrules, Muskie plays the four and SlammySammy 1 2 Quote

The question is “things practically nobody has said on this message board.” Now, if you’d listed “wants to play for the two time defending national champions“ that would have some traction. thebigweave and Maedhros 2 Quote

They haven't been said about him yet, no, but most of these are pretty standard excuses that always seem to come out after missing on a recruit. Just getting a head start on the excuse making. Quote

Given the recruiting struggles of our staff, not sure they'd be in a position to turn down a local 5 star that wanted to come home. BA47591 Posted October 17, 2024 Posted October 17, 2024 UConn will take a step back this year but this recruiting class will definitely get them back on track. At some point Luke Murray and Kamani Young will get jobs somewhere else and Dan will be mortal again. Banksyrules 1 Quote

Murray was with him at Rhode Island… it’s not as if he had a secret blueprint for UConn’s offense. Their staff developed it together. Credit all around… Hurley built a great staff and he wins everywhere he goes. Don’t see that changing when he has to find new assistants. Maybe the NBA is a different story, if that ever happens Stuhoo 1 Quote

Maybe the NBA is a different story, if that ever happens Agree to an extent but Hurley was more than pedestrian his first 4 years at UConn. Literally nothing after his first 4 seasons suggested he'd put together back to back seasons like he just did. I don't think it's a coincidence that UConn took off the year Hurley handed the reigns over to Murray to run the offense. UConn had KenPom ORtg of 85, 64, 27, and 22 before finishing 3 and 1 respectively the last two seasons. Obviously UConn was improving but they went to a whole new level with Murray. Quote

If you consider the full body of work, everything about Dan Hurley suggested he had the potential to win at this level. Bob Hurley is basically the John Wooden of NJ basketball, won umpteen state titles, etc. Dan had huge success at St. Benedicts for 9 years in a national circuit league. Ollie was uniquely terrible as the HC, probably the luckiest title winner of any HC IMO. UConn as a program was in a depressed state coming off back to back losing seasons playing in the AAC. Took time to get his system in place. His year 3 was wholly unimpressive, but by the end of year 4, though frustrated with the early exit, I assure you 95% of UConn fans were 110% behind him. When you say handed the reigns over to Murray on offense, not sure what you mean... tricky attributing specific bodies of work to specific members of the staff. No doubt people "own" different responsibilities, but HC is accountable at end of the day. Don't doubt his staff plays an important role... some skills are more easily replaced than others. Dan Hurley finds a way to dominate at every level of basketball he has coached. It's taken longer in some places than others. But he's got it rolling now, and with NIL, he can turbo charge the success as long as he keeps winning. I'm sure he will want all the financial support he can get to keep his staff. But he'll find a way if and when they leave. There is a part of me that doubts he ever goes to the NBA and just decides to coach at UConn for another 5-10 years to see how long he can keep things rolling. There is a world where for the next decade, UConn fans consider a sweet 16 a disappointing season. Quote
