2023 SF/PF Mackenzie Mgbako to INDI-F’N-ANA

Mgbako would get minutes and they could use his skillset, no question. The kid's really good. But, I guess it depends how you see their minutes breaking out and how that mixes with what we assume Mgbako's looking for. They have 5 guards who are gonna play a lot: Harris, Morris, Jackson, Timberlake and Johnson. Will be surprised if they aren't playing 3 guards almost all the time and 4 occasionally. Dickinson's gonna get 28-30, backed up by Udeh. Adams, as their best rebounder and most switchable defender, is gonna get 25. That just doesn't leave a ton of minutes, and I'm doing this off the top of my head, so that's assuming I'm not missing someone obvious. If he wants to be part of that team, I wouldn't blame him. That's a NC contender if the freshman guards hold up. But I just don't see a lot of minutes or shots there in comparison with IU literally having a specific need for a wing scorer. He walks into Bloomington with 25 mins on the table.

That's eight rotation guys at Kansas currently, with one of them, Timberlake, whose calling card is as a shooter. Mgbako would be the ninth rotation guy.

At IU? I count, X, Trey, SG to be named, Ware, Malik, Sparks, Cupps, Walker as our current top eight.

We're a guarantee for a shooter, but a top ten player can see 25+ minutes by direct insert into Grady Dick's role. I'd imagine they're saying "Grady Dick is off to the lottery and you're expected to be him next year."

This is something IU did that Kansas didn't. They had this flag hanging from his locker. The whole family flipped out about it especially his dad.

With all due respect to the wonderful folks in Nigeria…loving the Christmas vibe.

That’s all I got on this crootment.

Me still thinks Kansas. Unfortunately, Kansas has a well logged history of wing players under Self. Woody has Kopp. But this would be Woody's greatest get. No doubt about it.

I'd guess Kansas as well, but I've been wrong before and in this case would gladly be wrong again.

Woody also has Melo, Josh Smith, Rip Hamilton among many others

Those Kansas pics look like they were taken at Sears

Hey don’t knock Sears, it was the place to get family photos back in the 80’s.

Good times, and IU was very relevant.

Sure in the NBA... Self has dudes from college who fit Mgbakos mold almost to a t.

No doubt but if I’m a top 10 player high school player I’m hoping for better careers than Kelly Oubre, Josh Jackson, and Svi Mykhailiuk. Not that they’ve had bad careers but even the most successful, Wiggins, in some NBA circles hasn’t performed to his draft position. Self does always get these long lengthy wings but has he actually improved much of the draft stock of them? I’d be interested in knowing on the one and done wings he’s gotten what they were projected before the season and after their lone season in Kansas.

Andrew Wiggins has made $172.5 million in his career and will make another $108 million over the next four years.. Oubre has made $63 million and will get another eight-digit contract this offseason. Svi was a 3 star recruit ranked 239th in his class, so not really sure how he fits in here. If anything, turning him into an NBA pick is a plus for Self. And Josh Jackson’s problems were all between the ears. Even then, he made $28 million in his short career.

I said they haven’t had bad careers. If you can hang around the NBA for a decade you’re going to end up making close to 100 million. Nothing to sniff at. Again I’m saying to myself help me reach Melo not Wiggins. Maybe that’s just me.
