Have you spoken to Quinn Buckner? He loved this hire along with Isiah.

Quinn, Scott, and Terri need to sit him down & say you don't need this anymore. You don't need the long hours, the plane trips, the AAU tournaments. Spend the rest of the time rooting on the next coach, playing golf, smoking cigars, sipping wine, and enjoying your new grandbaby. Thos are the only people he is going to listen to, along with his daughters.

Let's hope.  When he was hired I remember him saying his family thought he was nuts and should be laying on a beach.

The problem with Crean is that very little of what he did was sustainable. In 2013, he had Kenpom's #2 offense. The following year it was #126. He HAD to have certain types of players to make things work. If he didn't have those players, he was screwed. And I'm not sure he even knew what kind of players he wanted or needed. There was never any rhyme or reason to who he offered, and he offered practically any player he came across.

He was like an artist who gets halfway through a drawing and then throws it in the trash because he thought of something better, only the next idea wasn't better, it was just different.

Or getting desperate in recruiting and offering the likes of Grant Gelon and Tim Priller.

Had some big hits, had done big misses. No doubt about that.

Good question and as soon as I typed that I figured someone would ask. I think a good AD should always have a top 5 list with every sport and make sure it is an ever-changing list. First off I'm not on the Chris Beard train. I just don't think you should ever lay your hands on a woman. I can't get over that part just yet. I believe in second chances but not so soon.

Bruce Pearl is on my list

Micah Schrewsberry is on my list

Dusty May

I'm still willing to throw out huge money at Brad Stevens

I'm not sure what the other one is right now. It's not Scott Drew, or Porter Mosier

But remember I'm just a nobody posting on a message board.

I would add Scott Drew

Honestly all the coaches that were let go all had the same problem (except Sampson). They were all too stubborn to change tactics. Seems too common with most coaches but it would be nice to have a coach  to think that hey our plan is not working, let's change it up.

Sampson was kind of unwilling to change too if you know what i mean.

What's funny is when you see what people describe what they want IU basketball to be, they essentially describe Crean's time here, yet people hated him for it. Fun, entertaining basketball, making tournaments, winning big ten titles. Crean with the portal and NIL would've been fun to watch.

Nah…I want someone who can actually coach.

I do sympathize with the younger cohort for whom Tom Crean is the high water mark of Indiana basketball. It’s hard to believe that at one point in the 90’s we had a first ballot HoF coach who people wanted on the hot seat for first round exits. Not missing the tourney, but just not going far enough . And that was only a few years removed from legit FF and EE teams. You’ll just have to trust the older guys when they confidently say IU basketball has a much much higher ceiling than the program Tom Crean ran.

At one point it did, not so sure it does now. This program has been mishandled as badly as it could be the last 20 years.

To be fair, Dolson should take a lot of heat for that.  You don't hand a recovering alcoholic a bottle of bourbon and then act surprised when you find him drunk an hour later.

There was a Rant train starting up last year too then we started to play well and win.  Anyone remember when we got going last year?

Things turned around a year ago this coming Sunday. We thumped a ranked Wisconsin and got rolling.

The morning of Sunday, January 14, 2023 we were 1-4 in conference and 10-6 overall.

We beat Wisconsin that day to start an in-conference streak in which we won eight out of nine.

Just because we did it last year does not mean we will this year, but there is recent precedence for that possibility.

Brian Evans was on the JMV show and he us definitely not happy with Woodson. He is really upset because of how he doesn't hold players accountable and no real punishment for poor play. He said he can't believe how Woodson could have played 4 years for RMK and coach so soft.

He said he never has met Woodson and to me that is hard time believe. Evans was still IU for 5 years and can't believe Woodson never came back in that time frame.

Yeah mostly agreed, except it's very subjective to call TJD the best player in the nation.

I will say having Xavier Johnson in the lineup all last season would have definitely changed things for the better. Xavier, along with JHS and Galloway would certainly have given us a better chance against Miami, that's for sure.

I don't know, I think he would have stunted JHS's growth.  And based on last night, XJ still has quite a bit of stupid in the tank.
