I was at IU when all three of those guys played.  Do I think it’s “nice/cool” to bridge the generations and embrace the traditions? Yes.

Do I think it means much of anything to 18-22 year olds? No

Do I think their performance on the court is impacted in anyway because Isiah, Randy, May etc are happy/involved/invested?  No

But how much are we relying on their donations/their brand/network, etc.? Like all things, there's got to be a balance.

Wow.  Why?  These guys aren't blind and they know basketball.  Surely they can clearly see Woody isn't the guy.  They're willing to put friendship over the best interest of the program?
I'm guessing those guys watch maybe 3-4 games per year and really don't care that much. Which would beg the question; why do we care what they think or feel? Not saying what I said is true but I'm guessing I'm close to right for the majority of former players. Not all.....majority

I agree with you, and don’t know how much former players donate, but I just don’t think it impacts the kids play/attitude when the ball goes up.

I was a freshman for the undefeated 75-76 season (spoiled me). Prior to that season I saw photos of the last championship team, from 1953, which was 4 years before I was born. In my mind it was very cool but also thought those were old photos from the Stone Age. A freshman now was born 18 years after our last championship and 24 years after IT played.  I think they are aware of the tradition, and like meeting guys like IT because he was in the league, but I don’t think it impacts results.

I wouldn’t focus on “IU family” when hiring a coach but it would be a tie-breaker if two candidates (one with IU ties) really stood out.

Totally on the same page!

Money is the answer. I'm not happy with Woodson, I just don't think you let him go yet.

I clearly don't know the financial impact former players have on the program. Is it that substantial? I mean Woodson had a 40 year NBA career and negotiated a raise this off-season. Why wouldn't he be donating to the program or leaving $ on the table?

Sounds like you don't have many very close friends

If my friend sucked this bad at his job, I'd fire him myself.  It's in no one's best interest to continue in a situation that isn't working.

Nobody says fire him today but if we finish the big ten at like something like 7-13 serious discussions need to happen.

I think it's fair to say that no matter how the season ends, there is going to be a serious discussion between a trustee, an AD, and the head coach. I don't think it will be your fired, but more of this isn't the direction we like for the program to be heading. We need something drastic to change next season or we will move in another direction.

Remember in "Blue Chips," when Happy (the booster) went nuts at the post-game presser? He was goaded by Western University coach Pete Bell, who basically ratted himself and Happy out for arranging gifts for players.

Now that NIL has essentially made paying players legal, I wonder how long it will be before a pissed-off, fat-cat booster bursts into a presser and rails about big-time money being paid to a program with very mediocre results?

Not necessarily saying this would happen at IU -- but anywhere???

Under Mike Woodson, it has been considerable. People who don't have money or donate like the Leary's and Evans complain in public.

Yeah I don't think he gets fired this year either, no matter what.

People need to realize our program has improved since he's gotten here.

We missed out on the NCAAT like 5 years in a row, then brings us back in his first 2 years.

We may not like the ceiling right now, but he has raised the floor.

You could easily argue that Woody made the dance with Archie's players, but can't make it with his own... so there's that.

Dolson needs to find a way to end this experiment once and for all at the end of this season. Do what you must to save face for everyone involved, but for the love of everything holy, end it.

We are at his floor right now it seems. Which is missing the vNCAA tourney. He had the best player in the nation last year and we were goodish.

I agree on this completely. The concern that I have is the trajectory of the program at this time. Not really seeing a lot of development overall from the players and a really bad product on the floor. I'm sure recruits see it also. Hope he can pull a rabbit out of his hat but at this point it's a long shot.
