“No way on Beard”….. curious at to why? Bc he has us winning in year 1 or 2. He’s won EVERYWHERE he’s been and he didn’t need the fanbase to simp for him and “give him time to get things going.”

Beard is elite and as much of a guarantee to win here as they come. More so than May imho.

I say no to a women beater and winning isn't the most important thing. IU fans use to have integrity but I guess that was s gone if anyone would want Beard to coach here.

This fanbase won’t even accept anyone without a squeaky clean recruiting background, so Beard is a nonstarter with his legal issues.

Besides, hiring a mediocre coach and then chastising and mocking the portions of the fanbase who aren’t elated with mediocre results is half the fun for many folks. Keeping that in place will be priority #1 for the next coaching search.

His fiancé admitted that she initiated an argument, escalated the argument,  then hit him and broke his glasses, and he acted out of self defense to restrain her. She also stated he didn’t choke her.

IU supporters, in general, haven’t diminished their integrity, and claiming moral superiority is unwarranted. You’re not in a position to judge my integrity without truly knowing me. Despite any belief in your own superiority over others, it’s misguided. Remember the saying, ‘first remove the plank from your own eye, and then you’ll see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.’ Regardless of religious beliefs, this is a sound principle to live by, don’t you think?

Bottom line is you’re accusing someone of being a woman beater, when in fact the woman he supposedly was “beating on”  was actually beating on him and had his charges dropped with her own testimony.

I care very much about my integrity. I do as much as I can to protect it at all times. I wouldn’t  support a coach at Indiana University if they were a woman beater. I have a daughter and 3 boys.

I also care deeply about facts and due process. Labels like “woman beater” carry significant stigma and can cause long-lasting damage to a person’s reputation, especially if the circumstances suggest a different narrative.

If we seek only those without any imperfections in their history or someone saint-like, then, unfortunately, we’ll never encounter anyone who can uphold that standard.

So let me get this straight

“No one is calling for Woody to be fired, we are just voicing concern.”

Proceeds to post page after page of multiple posters willing to run him out for May (who is Archie, Shaka and all the others names and with less of a resume and 1.3 good years) or…. Give me Beard WTH.

This isn’t about this school having some moral high ground. This is about common decency and some ethics.  One of you are probably the same “Jesus lover and Elementary School Principal” on Twitter posting the same thing. Sure, throw it all out to win. Wow. Funny how some of those same posters wanted to lock Mgbako up or kick him off the team. But beat the crap out of a Woman… sure.

Dakich must have a ton of accounts on here.

You’ve lost it. Lecturing me on decency? That’s rich coming from you. We clearly don’t see eye to eye. You attack me for considering all aspects of the situation, but frankly, your opinion of me means nothing. I’ve never respected you, even before tonight. You are attention seeking and many, including myself question your honesty, at times. You’ve misled people here for your own benefit, then play the victim when you’re called out. Not exactly traits of honor, are they?

So, what’s next? You claim to have ‘insider information’ about the event that didn’t make it into the official records? ‘Trust me, bro’?

I get it, some abuse victims retract statements and protect their abusers. But you’re just making assumptions about me and everyone else.

I’m no attorney, but I’m pretty sure they could’ve charged him regardless of her later statements. The district attorney said, “After reviewing everything, including Ms. [Randi] Trew’s wishes, they can’t prove the felony beyond a reasonable doubt.” And “Travis County District Attorney José Garza said they take domestic abuse seriously but lacked sufficient evidence for a conviction.”

And cut it out with your ‘I don’t want to be that poster’ act. You love being that poster, craving as much attention as you can get.

I’m done engaging with you. Your presence has disgusted me from the start. I can’t have a rational discussion with you, considering you’ll use manipulative tactics such as projection and emotional shielding. You’ve on numerous occasions tried to invoke sympathy for yourself and tried to steer any healthy dialogue away from rational discourse and into emotional traps. Not going to work with me.

merry Christmas you filthy animal.

MODS: I won’t speak another word to this person and I’m sorry I let it come to this. I don’t usually have these types of heated discussions with people. If you collectively see to it that I need to be removed or suspended, then so be it. I’ll gracefully bow out.

I'll never defend domestic violence, but let's not act like this fanbase didn't accept a coach that crossed more than a few lines including saying "if rape is inevitable, relax & enjoy it"; rape has other definitions but that's pretty low.

That is a false equivalence on a couple of levels.  First, the fanbase didn't 'accept' a coach that (had) crossed a few lines.

He was the coach.  Then he crossed lines.

And the fan base did not accept his statement.  Some thought that it was a setup.  Some thought that it was out of context.  Some thought other things.  Some thought he was a bully and/or condoned rape.  Some just used the incident one way or another.  Some thought he was a bigot.  Others thought he was a very giving and loving person.  Some thought he was complicated and had a lot of issues that others could use for or against him.

And he was definitely set up by Connie Chung to say such a thing.  If one knew Coach Knight, one would know that that statement, while terribly ill advised, was literally not Coach Knight's position on rape.  Chung pushed Knight's button to get that soundbite.  She was good at that.  Knight got outmaneuvered and fell into the trap.  He tried to shock her. She was the pro and used him.

A lot of unfortunate statements can be taken out of context and used against a person.  It is done all the time by those that use rhetoric, misinformation and misdirection.  Also, some can cover their feelings by saying it was out of context and misinterpreted.

Coach Knight was not smart to say such a thing.  He did backpedal later.  But, some ignore that.  And his excuses were kind of lame.  And use of the word rape is so inflammatory and really hard to take back.  Knight: Rape Remarks Misinterpreted - Los Angeles Times (latimes.com)

Who among us has said such things that have embarrassed us?  Or we have done things that were ill-advised and against social mores.

I say the false equivalent really is not compelling.

And, as far a Coach Knight is concerned.  Few of his public actions that were bad form.  He was responsible for his actions.  The administration did not use corrective discipline on him that were effective.  He was run out of Btown because of both.  He never learned that he could not do whatever he wanted in that position of not only being a coach but representing Indiana University and that State of Indiana.

He got raped.  He did not lay back and enjoy it.   IU basketball got raped.  We are still, in part, suffering from it.

Gee, do you see what I did there?  Do I mean it literally?  /s

That was not his first time using rape as in an answer or as an apology. He did the year prior after a win against Auburn too.

Well I know around 96-97 I was on the old Peegs message board and I was actually saying it was time for RMK to be replaced. I was tired of his antics especially in press conferences and was starting to embarrass IU. I was a newby to the message board and some of the old timers like Gorkjo didn't take kindly to my viewpoint. He even went so far to want to meet me and kick my @$$.

Didn't the charges get dismissed. So how does that make him a woman beater?

Hey, I done the same. I remember catching so much **** for it too. At that time I was only 14-15 yr old and I took it hard. At the time, I loved RMK and everything he had done for IUBB. But some of his stuff was getting so old and it felt like even the players were tired of it. Just by the way they played for him, his voice was old.

but also, being in RMK’s shoes. Having all that power probably went to his head too. And that’s an easy road to go down and not realize it before its way too late.

It was only because he wasn't winning big anymore. Nobody cared when he was making final fours. You can pretend otherwise but that was the case.

Well, in my defense. I was a kid at that time. So…and I agree with HoosierHoopster

I know of several guys who were falsely acussed before and it basically ruined their lives. Turned out all not to be true in the end, but the damage was already done . It goes both ways but some holier than though posters seem to think guilty until proven innocent. They better hope nobody ever accuses them because I guess they will be presumed guilty from day one
