How far away is IUBB from being elite again?

Why do these discussions always lead to "either/or" scenarios? What about players who want to play their best AND look their best?

It’s easier to say that something is irrelevant than it is to admit we’re lacking in it. IU basketball is old and stuffy. We’re not a cool program currently. And the usual suspects will fight change every step of the way. Just look at their reaction to G herbo coming to HH. The program needs a total overhaul.

I have never heard of G herbo.  Does he have something to do with the G league?

Hard to be a cool program when you struggle to make the tournament.

To be fair, I think Woodson is helping in that regard. He’s a cool coach. I’m not sure any coach is/was less cool than Tom Crean and Archie wasn’t much of an upgrade.

If Yogi were our senior pg instead of XJ we’d be top 10 easily and probably top 5 looking at a 1 seed.

Agree. But XJ could absolutely be the 2 guard.

I could say the same thing about VO at the 2 guard spot, I could say the same thing about Watford at the 4. Watford and Kopp in the corners, XJ/JHS getting PnRs from TJD..

Elite?  For those who do not understand the concept… Elite is consistently in the top ten, winning at least one national championship, with at least one other final four appearance and an additional elite eight and an additional couple sweet sixteens, winning a couple or three big ten titles including a big ten tournament or two over a period of time like the next decade or ten years (2023 thru 2033) to go with the IU men’s basketball past tradition.  For those who do not know what Elite looks like this is to help out.  So in the last decade does IU men’s basketball look like something along these criteria?  IU men’s basketball if it were to start today would not be Elite for approximately another decade.

Being way past middle age another something to live for.

Currently, IU Ladies basketball program is taking hold building a tradition not only in wins but the IU Ladies basketball program Image (along with soccer already a tradition) if it continues on course.

Between Men and Ladies basketball….Not counting NIT who wins a conference championship, final 4 and beyond first?

Moren is an absolutely outstanding coach and leader of the Women’s program and she’s been building it. Right now the Women’s program is clearly ahead, Woodson is just heading into year 2. Can he build the program like she has and is? Way top early to know, but both as of now look to be in good hands

There is no doubt about it—we may or may not gripe about the men, but the IU Women’s team is an unmitigated joy.

From the beginning I have always said T. Moren (she literally accepted the job on the fly) was the best hire Fred Glass ever made…and IU extended her and kept her that she EARNED.

That’d basically be Duke and UNC and Villanova, all of which you could make the case are mo longer elite due o their elite coaches retiring.

Duke, UNC and Villanova can still have a huge drop off. Early success could be afterglow from prior regime. I suspect none of those programs would hire/extend/allow 19 combined years of Davis, Archie, Crean level coaches like we have
