They Fired Tom Allen!

Recommended Posts

Money.  It’s everywhere in everything with no rhyme or reason to it for many financially fortunate people.  T. Allen is just another norm in this fortunate group.

and the Penix and (DeBoer) story well just seems to be IU football phenomena.

That's awesome... But that still proves the point that Allen should have never been offered what he was. Dolson majorly screwed up. There was a reason he wasn't a hot name for any bigger programs... Or really any programs at all. Clearly other ADs seen the flaws.

Maybe CTA wasn't looking for another job and he made it clear that he wasn't interested in leaving IUFB? I think that's what sucks about all of this. I truly think this is his dream job and he doesn't want to go anywhere else. Like he doesn't view this job as a stepping stone if that makes sense.

IU football under Allen is really non-competitive. The offense (and potentially coordinator time will tell) belong to Friday Night's and it hurts me to say that so does CTA. I like him, he's a great guy and leader for young men but he is simply in over his head. There are many things that you can pick out about IUFB and facilities to point to losing but it really all comes down to monetary investment (recruits, facilities, social media, footprint, merch). I just moved to Colorado over the summer, so the Buffalo's are now my favorite team - they forked out over $20Ms for a great coach/recruiter. It's sad that IUFB can be so complacent being mid for decades at a time. PRIME TIME

Edit: IU defense isn't abysmal. They are put in tough spots by the O.. the problem has been the same for several years

Well he doesn't treat like a stepping stone either because we still suck.

You know Deion isn't going to be there very long, right? He'll hit the road as soon as the first big time school gives him an offer. I myself said IU needed a guy like Deion, aka someone to bring a spotlight to the program, really light a spark. But that's a double edge sword because schools like IU and Coloardo are not "destination" jobs. I think everyone knows CTA is in over his head as a coach, I think most were just hoping he'd surround himself with really good coaches and just "lead" the team. But that's probably not super realistic at place like IU. Good assistant coaches will leave, and replacing them year after year is difficult so the head guy needs to be a really good x's and o's guy. I get the frustration with what's going on, but I think the timing of the most recent uproar is a little misguided or misplaced. Let's come back to this (again) in 4-5 weeks. But regardless, IU is not forking over $20M to CTA. So if the season goes horribly south, he either quits/resigns (highly unlikely) or there's a negotiated buyout, I would assume around $10M. That all being said, I am going to wager that IU wins 6 games this year. The offense will get better (how can it not) and the defense looked very good.

Had this exact conversation just this weekend with some friends. The question was posed "The coach of the Colorado Buffaloes Sept. 1, 2024 is _____________" and the only reason we could think that it would be Deion (if they actually are for real) is if Shedeur isn't ready to go to the league and Travis can't get a waiver to transfer again.

Or if Colorado and their boosters significantly upgrade the program now that they have him. They were willing to ante up to hire him. They are in a conference that allows for it, and the identities of big-time programs can change.

I could easily see Deion going to the NFL though.

And don't be surprised if it's FSU regardless of what type of success they have the next couple of seasons. If Deion has a big year, this could be his only season at Colorado. He's definitely leaving it's only a matter of when and where. But it will be in the south or a warm weather school.

Nah, he's Prime Time and that's not a prime time type of school. Also he's not "young", so he'll make the jump sooner than later.

I think now that he has his foot in the P5 door (which was a big hurdle, imo) he's going to be given a signed check and a pen from someone in the south and told to put whatever he pleases in that box. Colorado has nothing for that and getting kids from the south to go to the mountains won't stay as easy as he's made it look so far.

Don't really see the NFL being too fired up about him and I'm not sure his schtick works there. Preaching to professionals just doesn't really land.

I'm curious how much actual ill-will there is between him and FSU after the Travis Hunter situation. Pretty sure he was real mad when they didn't reach out to him before they hired Norvell too. He might go to a Miami or UF just to spite them lol.

He could leave... At the same time, he's going to be in a conference next year that'll be very wide open to take over with Oklahoma and Texas leaving. And I don't see him as a guy to back down from any challengers. Win some, let the money roll in, upgrades can be made. Colorado could definitely become a top dog in the Big 12.

My thought process with Tom is complicated.

On one hand, I don't care how bad we are historically it is unacceptable to play the way we have the last 2 seasons and for the majority of his tenure outside of 2 seasons. If you can't at the very least go to a bowl game every other year you need to go.

On the other hand, I don't hate the idea of keeping him around until the buyout goes down and while we wait continue to invest in the program to make it more desirable when we do have an opening.

Really all I want is to win 6 games every year and I will root like hell for it. I think it's probably too naive of me to think that we will actually make major investments into the program but I just want the program to not be a laughingstock it is embarrasing.

To add to this, extending him when we did made sense it just sucks that it isn't working out
