I feel real good about landing him and Liam. I think our early due diligence along with some luck really helped us out here. Time will tell.

I love the sound of it being an Indiana/UGA battle, but it would be a kick to the crotch to lose him to a school that values football, spring football, and baseball before the basketball team.

Pretty sure students get in free to home games.

This is one recruitment a deep tournament run may help solidify, but sounds Georgia has a lot in their favor here.

The primary UGA advantage is that he would have somebody who he's (extremely) familiar with already in the program. We have a real shot at the same dynamic.

If the family weighs it's analytics, an extremely high-upside but maybe a bit raw player can benefit a bunch from having good pieces around him. UGA will not have that.

Finally, if Mike White is trending toward awesomeness at UGA, Asa is going to get a real insider's take to let him know. Given Mike White's slow slide into sadness at Florida, I find it hard to believe that will be the case.

If I had to worry more about UGA or "others" as the primary competition for Asa Newell, I'm worrying more about "others."

Been pretty clear that we were out of the running and this just reinforces that fact.

Biancardi:  Spoke with Asa Newell yesterday. He’s giving Texas, Gonzaga, Georgia, Auburn and Alabama a hard look. Currently sitting at No.11 in the ESPN 100. At 6’9” his long frame, wingspan, fluid movements and developing skill continues to show his major potential.

Officially out on Newell. Too bad, hell of a talent.

Yeah, this one became obvious but it’s really unfortunate. I like him a lot.  Seems like a “4” and potentially a stretch 4.  Definitely possible and maybe even likely Reneau is back and our 4 spot is covered.   Queen’s recruitment makes me nervous. He seems all over the place.  OV net 5k so maybe he’s just collecting his dough before committing to our beloved Hoosiers.  Lol

Reporting on Twitter/X is that Georgia is the team to watch here.

For sure. His family is from Athens. His brother plays at UGA. And Mike White has basically spent the last year watching 2 kids non-stop: Newell and Khani Rooths. Missing on Newell would be like Mike Davis missing on Sean May.

Well, there goes IU's chance of landing 80% of Montverde's starting lineup. Also, that's not Newell in the picture. Odd.

Too bad. Would have really liked to land him but IU never seemed to be a serious contender to land him.
