I would pump the breaks a little bit on JG.  He did this against a team new to D1 that plays a defense that makes it easier to stand out.  He usually shows out in this type of game.  The game is too fast for him on both ends against better competition.  I’m not expecting him to get the kind of minutes he got today going forward.  TB was quiet today but he’s a player.  RP played well and he just needs a shot to go down.  The point guard situation has been settled.  Leal missed on some today but he should continue to get minutes.  The biggest piece off the bench remains injured.

Games like this are part of his progression. He has all the tools, rough though they may be at times. If we expect to do anything this season beyond just meeting the experts expectations, he will have to be a part of it.

They won 20 games and the NEC last year. Who cares?

The biggest piece off the bench is Tamar Bates, he is not injured.

Jordan had a double double and a career high, we know you aren’t a fan but just give him props.

TG is the biggest piece off the bench.

I’m a fan of all our student athletes.  I may not be as high on him as others but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to see him do well.  I would love to see a repeat performance but based on what we have seen I’m not expecting that.

Agree on JG. Merrimack as a team only had like 16 rebounds for the whole game.

This is exactly what I am talking about and a game like this can build towards that!

Come on Kaulie give props to a part of his progression!

Can one be pleased with his effort and game while keeping it in perspective?

I get we need some of these easier games to develop players but JG would be a top 3 player for them right now. When JG is consistent against Big 1.0 level competition that’ll be great.

Can we talk about effort yet?

Effort is the most misunderstood measure in the game.  Too often it is equated with results.  Wins and losses are most definitely effected by effort, but winning does mean great effort and losing doesn't mean lack of effort.

Huh?  Geronimo's best game this year prior to today was against St.John's.  His two highest scoring games last year were against Iowa and Rutgers.

Anybody else think TJD looked soft today?  Couldn't finish if he was bodied up.  Race was the "MAN" today as far as finishing through contact.

Not really.  He finished with 16 and 9 in 24 minutes while being guarded and defending their best player.

Honestly, its' why I was impressed with us scoring 81 points.  Merrimack plays as slow as anyone and choose to have their immediately back pedal on defense when a shot they put a shot up.  Those rebound totals are not out of the ordinary for them -- 13 against Gonzaga and 17 against Virginia Tech.  That said, they've only given up 81 points four times in the last three years.

Exactly. And he had 13 and 13 today. Who else did that, didn’t all the guys play in the same game?

I don’t get the reluctance to recognize when JG, or any other player for that matter does well. He’s already shown strong games against good B1G teams. He has shown the ability already to lock down the other team’s best player. As he gets minutes - minutes he clearly earned, he grows his game with his obvious tools - and the kid gets after it, he hustles, and plays a team player game. Kid’s good, and as he earns his way to playing more he’ll make the team better

My biggest takeaway from today’s game… Parker Stewart, if he isn’t shooting 5/10 three pointers is an absolute liability. Awful defensively, like worse than James Blackman Jr bad but without the firepower on offense

I don't think starting Leal would be a bad thing at all.

While I wouldn't go that far, I would like to see some of our bench players get some run with the starters.  I'd like to see the bench peppered in rather than poured in all at once.  Hard to tell how good individually bench players are when they are playing as a unit.

When Geronimo is playing well, he's hard to contain.  When he isn't, he's his own worst enemy.

The holes in his game right now seem to be his free throw shooting (but he has been better lately) and he seems to have no touch on his passes.  I don't see anything in his game that isn't correctable.

I think the bench use is a carry over for CMW's NBA days. The way he talks about the "second unit" kind of gives it away also. He seems pretty locked in to his starting five as well. He may modify his thought process as gets more experience coaching the college game. Then again, maybe he won't.
