Ok, that point has merit. And getting Galloway to keep his hands off a guy 35’ out might be futile.

Phinisee, Race, Galloway, Leal would look kinda stubby on that USC team.

Bobby Knight?

Cant be Rick Pitino; he won’t be an option because he’s about to get hit with a show cause,

and also because outside of Dave Bliss he may be the biggest scumbag ever to patrol anyone’s sideline.

This wishful thinking or a final verdict from his time at Louisville? Read this earlier and wasn't aware of anything that he'd done at Iona

I've heard nothing but great things about him.  He was a really nice HS and small college player too.

We need to start with baby steps!  Someone brought up us and UCLA.  I think that's where they went wrong, trying to run before you can walk.  If you do that, you end up, well, where they are and we are heading that way.  Greg knows how to coach, so what it is Div II.

Somehow I want Michael Lewis back at IU. Especially after listening to him on DD’s show this week. He’s tired of IU being bad just like everyone else and he didn’t care to say it even though he’s coaching at UCLA.

He hasn’t coached or recruited in four years.

You want a brain surgeon to perform on you after four years of sitting on the couch?

He hasn’t forgotten how to coach but he would need a great staff around him.

I suspect the roster might look pretty different, pretty quickly.

Having to do this all again in four or five years is my only and overwhelming problem.

GREAT coach, great integrity, great guy. Everything except for a crucial thing.

I have concerns about Beilein but I will take him a million times out of a million over Alford.

100% on all this.

Like I said, all candidates have potential downsides. Beilein's unique downside is his age, so it's definitely something to consider. What I'm confused by is the number of people I see saying that hiring Beilein would end their IU fandom, etc. That's just bizarre to me. I don't relish the idea of another coaching search in 5 years but I'm genuinely curious why this would be such a deal breaker for so many people. Alford is like that for me, I wouldn't support this program with him as coach, but there's a perfectly good moral reason for that. Beilein's downsides are real but I can't imagine them being prohibitive to being an IU fan.

There's no guarantee that ANY coach will succeed here or anywhere else... but no need going off the deep end on an NAIA guy... plenty of other quality fish in the sea...

I'm not old enough to remember, but what do you think IU fans thought when they hired RMK?  Who the hell is this guy?  Don't care where you are coaching now, you either have it or you don't!  Just because he is in the NAIA doesn't mean squat to me, if you can win!

Different world than when RMK was hired.  Recruiting connections matter.  BTW, Archie Miller won at a high rate at a mid major but couldn't at IU....there is a reason that you don't bring players up from single A ball to the majors.  Just because you can hit A pitching doesn't mean you can hit 100 mph fastballs.

It is a possibility from what I've read -- I'm guessing it doesn't happen, but it's a possibility -- final verdict from Louisville.  Don't know if it would effect his current position at Iona or just some place else that hired him.

Different world, same game.  We haven't had a teacher since RMK.

I get what you're saying, but this isn't a great analogy. Fernando Tatis Jr only played 88 games at AA and before that was in A ball and he was pretty damn good his rookie year and now is one of the top 5 players in all of baseball in only his 2nd full season. Andrew Vaughn is likely to go from A ball in 2019 to the starting White Sox DH on opening day unless the Sox manipulate his service time for a few weeks when they break camp. Different sports and I totally get what you're aiming at, but just sayin' it's not completely unheard of in baseball.

Can't say what anyone thought about RMK. I was a kid. Dad passed 11 years ago... I am sure some remember... but to the NAIA guy to Indiana, not sure we've sunk that low... let him pay his dues  in D-II, low D-I and/or mid-majors... despite what the past 25 years looks like, Indiana is not a place where you jump from NAIA to the B1G...

And to remind everyone, Alford killed at Manchester College... and has been adequate at best beyond that.
