General Coach Candidate News

So the only reason we will have a better candidate next year is that our buyout will be cheaper?

I have no idea. As you mentioned earlier, there are better programs on the verge of opening up. The big fish could be waiting for that although we can all assume who will fill those spots.

There could be a change of hearts this off-season for some coaches or maybe next year. It wasn't as fruitful as we had all hoped four year ago. Considering that and other big jobs maybe opening up..

IMO it wasn't fruitful because we didn't want to pay to be players again. We wanted to go cheap with an up and comer and hoped it worked out. It didn't so now time to dish out some money. It's the same candidates now or this time next year IMO

I agree that most candidates this year will be here next year. The names of Belein, Matta, Fife--  Which makes me think if I'm a big booster, I'd just save my money. But if the money is there then I suppose we can make a change.

This is just a really bad situation and yeah we could win our next hire but will we find a coach that gets better results than what CTC did? (3 Sweet 16's, BIG Champions)

I don't know..

Ding, Ding, Ding!  You win the satisfaction of knowing that Archie Miller is on par with Fran McCaffery in his first four years.

Less technicals though

I know I love your positivity. I think I'm just getting frustrated that my gut is telling me that were going to sit through this for another year

I genuinely worry that 1) IU stays the course, 2) IU has a decent season, and 3) IU sticks with Miller.

It’s not my call but it isn’t working and seems to be going the wrong way based on the last month and the recruiting. There’s a pretty good group coming back, especially on the perimeter with Franklin, Stewart, and an improved Lander (plus I like Rob but I think he’d be better under a different coach).

I can see the logic with waiting if you really think there’s a small number of coaches who can win at IU. I disagree, like @Chris007 , and think most competent options would be an immediate and long-term upgrade. Like @hoosierpap I live outside the state now and think the recruiting base and resources make IU a sleeping giant so I’m less convinced you need some hard-to-find “perfect fit.”

Like a lot of y’all I typically watch every game, read and think about the team a ton, and that enthusiasm has waned big time.

Anyway, what if IU’s like 23-13 (10-10) next year but plays into the sweet sixteen after they upset a 2 or 3 seed in the second round? That wouldn’t really change my perspective on Miller but I worry it would just delay the inevitable longer.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing, expecting different results.  The only way we improve next year is if there is a philosophy change at the top.  Archie has shown he is unable to make such change.  Thus, the AD needs to make the change for him.

UNC will be Wes Miller

Duke will be picked by K and will likely be Nate James or Jon Scheyer

I don't think those schools will be going with big names people think. As for the others who knows.

It's Tom Allen season in 5 months. He will provide plenty of distraction :)

Only thing that would change my perspective on Miller would be a 2011-2012 like season. Indiana went from being in the basement of the Big Ten to a legit National Title contender in one season.

Indiana Basketball should be able to pay a coach in the top ten as far as salary goes. I think Miller was 20. That's unacceptable.

I could be wrong, but I thought his salary was top 10 at the time the contract was written. But since he hasn't performed he hasn't gotten a pay raise to keep it top 10.

21st according to the one that came out today

was actually 8th  highest when he was hired. Which for his resume at the time was pretty reasonable. No reason to give him top 5 money.

Our roster isn’t terrible and a new coach this year would have freedom to play in the transfer market to reshape the roster. We might not need any rebuild at all if we have a new coach next year. Someone like Mack or Drew could have us in the tournament as early as next year.

If we wait a year that changes.

Boy do I hope Dolson realizes this...
