Why would putting up with a lame duck coach for another year make any more sense than firing him now (and firing up the program again with a new hire)? I have hardly watched at all this year and there’s little to no chance I watch any games next year. And with AH open, how does he think there won’t be boos and jeers every night from the few fans left? Not to mention the loss in merchandising.

However, us bitching aside, I know there is roughly half of the fanbase who will watch regardless of how they play, and a lot of that contingent are big sunshine pumpers, even in circumstances like these. Would Dolson count on their support and forgo what the “serious” fans want? 

Also season ticket holders are not going to give up their seats and points for one season. It would be dumb to do that, then we hire Stevens. But as a booster told me, he will buy his tickets and just give them away each game till there is a new coach. But there will be boos and fewer people there.

Yeah I mean realistically, I don’t see them taking that into account when it comes to the decision. I was 90% certain they were going to let him go after this season, now I’m at about 50/50. If they want to call themselves a blue blood, they should act like it and do the right thing. I’m just not sure they will.

I'm starting to get worried but that is just because it is getting so quiet. But hopefully that means work is getting done behind the scenes

I appreciate all the info you and others give. In no way can this university justify bringing a coach back that lost the last 6 games of the season. If money is an issue, then Freddie wasn't as good of an AD as many of you thought he was. He gave Archie this contract. This was an epic collapse like no other. To make matters worse, the whole tournament is being played in Indiana...rds 1 and 2 at Assembly Hall!!! He's never beaten Purdue, has a losing record against the conferences best, has missed the NCAA Tournament in the three years they've had it (Indiana would've been a 10/11 seed last year...yipee....). Indiana basketball will be almost dead to me if he comes back. This tells me the university doesn't care about winning.  I'm pretty sure I watched more games that the 6-25 team played than this team. I think I read where IU-Michigan State was the lowest viewed IU game in a long time.

I gave Archie a chance this year. However, when they got killed by Northwestern at home I knew it was the same crap as the last three years. I think from start to finish, I've only watched a few games since. I just started posting on here recently just to see the chatter about what is going on with the program. I like talking to all of you. That being said, I just can't invest time in a program that is okay with being a bottom 4 team in the Big Ten. We are literally Nebraska right now.

What's frustrating about that team is they finished the regular season on a winning streak and then they crapped the bed against Ohio State in the BTT. Romeo looked like he had other places to be during that game.

And most likely would've been a one-and-done in the NCAA tournament.  The team wasn't exactly clicking on all cylinders then.

With all this thread has been through, Archie coming back for a 5th year just sounds so boring. I guess I just don’t see how transfers are gonna help him too much from becoming a stellar team and be so much more successful. If he couldn’t get the players he already picked to produce, then how will he get transfers he picks to produce? I can see it both ways to where 1. We actually don’t have as good of players as we think and we need some new faces, but 2. We actually do have a solid roster and a different coach would be able to get them to produce at a higher level. They say Archie’s defense takes a couple/few years to get into place and be solid, so what if he gets a bunch of new faces. How are they gonna be successful next year in his system their first go around? Our defense has actually gotten worse here lately and the players should know exactly how to make it work and they aren’t. There definitely seems to be a disconnect between Archie and the team and he doesn’t act like a coach how knows how to figure things out. People think we will lose a handful of the players we like on the team if Archie is gone, but I honestly don’t think so. I think they’d be more than willing to stay and play for a new coach. They genuinely seem to enjoy IU.

I guess I just feel worried about seeing a repeat of this year next if he returns, and even if he happens to finish top 5 in the conference once the other teams have a down year, does Archie get extended for doing better? And then what happens when the other teams reload...Archie back to finishing 10th in the league again? I want to be elite because our coach is legit and knows how to get everything out of his players...not because the rest of the conference happened to give Archie a favor by having a down year.

Worst-case scenario:

Archie comes back, a fluke finish in the B1G Top 5 next season and a win in the tourney, IU doesn’t let Archie go, then another 4 years of this. The wheels will continue to spin in neutral.

Seriously impressive having two god-awful streaks like that with players like Juwan, Romeo, and TJD this year. Gotta hand that to Archie
