So if Jakai is going to be limited due to his knee and with both X and Trey having a history of injuries we need an additional backcourt option. Does anyone know if we have reached out to Ithiel Horton from UCF who just entered the portal as a grad transfer.

Yes, but no mention of whether the staff have contacted Mr. Horton. He does definitely fit what this team needs. Let's hope he visits.

It could be they are waiting until UCF has officially placed him in the portal.   In the article it stated they have until Wednesday, I would assume EOD.  They don’t want to get accused of poaching, lol

Don't think it was mentioned here, but Jordan Brown (Louisiana) committed to Memphis.  Was probably the best player left in the portal:  6'11" center, averaged 19.3 points and 8.6 rebounds.  This will be his fifth team -- as a freshman was at Nevada, averaged only three points.  Believe he went JUCO the next year, then transferred to Arizona and was a part time starter, averaging 9.4 points and 5.2 rebounds.  Has spent the last two years at Louisiana.

NCAA Division I Legislative Committee proposal.

The council introduced a proposal to reduce notification-of-transfer windows to 30 days, down from 60. Data from the past year indicate that most student-athletes enter the Transfer Portal at the beginning of the transfer window.

Now that the proposal has been formally introduced, respective oversight committees and the Division I Student Athlete Advisory Committee will gather additional feedback and offer potential amendments to the proposal over the summer. A final vote on the proposal will be considered by the council during its October meeting.

They need to propose how many times a student-athlete can transfer.  A limit needs to be set.  Also, they need to set rules and limits on NIL

The thing with NIL, I don't think you can regulate it.  I mean you can try, but the rule breakers will work to get the upper hand no matter what rules you try to impose.  The times and rules a student can transfer though, I agree completely.

They already have.  Players are allowed one waiver-free non-grad transfer.  Grad transfers don't apply to this rule.  If a player wishes to transfer more than once, then need to receive a waiver from the NCAA to do so.  It does seem that at least right now the NCAA is allowing waivers when a player transferring after a coaching change.

I always figured after the Supreme Court got involved in NIL a few years ago, it will be impossible to ever get it reeled in without insane amounts of lawsuits, appeals, etc.

Nendah Tarke, 6'4" guard from Coppin State, initially commiitted to Nicholl's State.  He has now decommitted and is back in the portal.  Rutgers had shown interest before and with the exit of Spencer and Mulcahy would think  they might again.

Last season at Coppin State he averaged 12.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.1 assists.  Shot 43/33/54 and has shot 43/31/59 over three years at Coppin, averaging 12.2 points.  Is said to be a + defender, so sounds like a Rutgers type of player in that he's a good defender but a so-so offensive option.

And yet players have transferred 5 times and played for 5 different schools.  That’s not controlled

If you can cite any player that has transferred five times and has played for five different schools, please link it.

Point is, the NCAA has regulated it to one non-grad waiver free transfer.  The NCAA regulations are there.  https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/committees/d1/clr/D1CLR_TransferWaiverProcess.pdf

You can disagree with the number of waivers the NCAA grants, but I also think they know (rightly) that in most cases they would lose if taken to court.  The fact is that college students transfer all the time -- and not once does the school they transfer to care WHY they are transferring.  If anything, college scholarship athletes are held to a higher standard for transferring since they have a limited portal period.  IMO, although it was better for the fans to see players stay at one school generally for the duration of their college career, I don't that it was better for the athlete to be locked in like that.

I don’t know which player it was and it may have been more than one, but it was a player that IU was recruiting and the red flag would be his 5th school in 5 years.  I know somebody on this message board knows who it was and could provide the link
