Archie. Miller. Fired.

So, if fans were wildly applauding and cheering after the 6th straight loss and for a program that’s not been in the NCAA Tournament since 2016 the board of T’s would not be swayed? Huh.
It’s simple. Has the program IMPROVED over the last 4 years? It has unequivocally not.
He’s gotta go and he’s gotta GO NOW!

What I believe is that if there was apathy after four straight down years with Archie, the board of trustees might be willing to wait one more year.

Because there’s an indication that there’s outrage, they may act right away.

Any of you go to IU in the mid to late 80’s like I did?  I was there for the 87 championship and for the best years of Mallory. Football had AT who should have won the Heisman and Bowls 3 of the years I was there.  I was back on campus for the 1992 final four team. Men’s soccer won a championship in 88 as well.

Such a great time to be a student. Hopefully most of you had a chance to be there for part of that

The one semester that I spent on campus was the spring of '76 in grad school. Not a bad time either.

Personally, yes, I do think so. If the BOT could get away with keeping Archie another year and saving a bunch of money without blowback I think they’d do it in a heartbeat. We all know Archie doesn’t deserve a fifth season. He’s been a disaster. But it costs a lot of money to get rid of the disaster. I think they’d rather not pay it because I think how much they care about IU basketball is not how much we care about IU basketball.

I didn't think it would be that much to get rid of him?

It’s probably the same way it was with Crean. It wasn’t a lump paid at once. It’s paid over a few years.
Whatever the cost. It’d be worth it.

*We all wanted it to work with Miller. We all had high hopes. Unfortunately, after 4 years...... we’ve reached a new depth of despair and no return in sight. There absolutely was NO IMPROVEMENT. We just kept digging our hole deeper and deeper.

Which unfortunately is why booing is a necessary part of this. Not really my thing but I get it. During the Rutgers game when we were playing well they commented a few times about how the crowd was really helping IU. I think this is the biggest thing. We want so bad to cheer for them and enjoy success with the team but while losing stinks it is worse when you don’t score for 10 minutes and miss like 6 of 8 free throws.

With the way the payments are monthly over the three years, and the likelihood of him getting another head coaching job somewhere to lower the amount, I don't think it'd be that much. Definitely not the scary $10 million that we've seen plastered everywhere. But I don't know how they have to report it on their financials and all that fun stuff.. If they really have the money if they want to use it, I don't know what the hold up is for them. The buyout will be chump change in the grand scheme of things if a new coach turns the program around.

Exactly! We don't want to boo. We don't want to have to fire our coach. We want to cheer as loud as we can for the team. They just haven't given us much to cheer for over the past half decade.

I remember Clarence Doninger received boos regularly because he was against Coach Knight.

I obviously can’t predict anything and it’s not a guarantee he’s gone anyway, but I don’t see anything happening until after the selection show or even the tournament starting. We’re way on the outside looking in, and it’s obviously a long shot, but it’s not outside the realm of possibility that as the local host we’re on standby for opening weekend in case  more teams can’t participate and travel due to Covid.

I’m also currently in line waiting for a sandwich to be made, so this is where my thoughts are going while I wait for a panini.

The BOT must consider if $10 million is too high a price to pay to avoid the empty seats, the boos from those in the seats and the complete lack of support from the die hard fan base....

I dunno but $10 million seems like a bargain to save face.

IU is hardly the only place where fans boo pathetic performance.  It never should've gotten to this point; IU should've put their big boy pants on and gotten serious long ago.  Indiana should've said "this is unacceptable here" instead of making excuses.  At Duke or UNC or pUKe, which even a Texas writer said is our rightful place, Miller would've already been gone.
It got to this point because Indiana let it.
True. It still doesn't make it right

Doesn’t make it wrong either. Paying customers can do what they please as long as it’s allowed and booing isn’t disallowed

No one is arguing against that.
