What I also found interesting (because it backs up what I have said in the past...lol) is Hartman saying we would have won 5 more games if we just played hard more consistently. I can’t understand why some still pushback when inconsistent effort is mentioned.

He also mentions how much Buckley helped him with his shot and Leary ran with that saying our guys have not improved and that he can see our shooting flaws from a mile away. They questioned the lack of player development and Leary basically said..who cares if Leal shoots  a ton of shots after games if he is just repeating/practicing a shooting form that has issues. These guys need coaching. Just kind of reinforces what many of us suspected.

Yep, nobody on staff to refine the players' shots.  It shows.

Every one of his issues is solved by wininng.  You want a packed stadium -- Win.  Turning it into a minor league baseball stadium isn't going to do it.  Getting the right coach will.

As for recruiting Indiana kids, nobody says you have to have all Indiana players.  But if you don't dominate your backyard in recruiting, how can you expect to get any interest from outside the state.

Which is weird because Archie shot 43% from 3 and 85% from the line in college. You'd think he would be able to teach them a thing or two about shooting, but I guess not.

Right.  He values free throws, and we can't shoot free thows.  Either teach them yourself, you get someone on staff to do it.  It's just an epic failure on Archie's point and should cost him his job.

I’d always figured he could and should be able to help in this regard.

Re-tooling someone’s shot is a tricky concept. We’ve seen it go horribly wrong.

At some point you have to recruit shooters and build that confidence.

Listen to the interview with Hartman if you haven't.  He tells how Buckley worked with him, no holds barred.  He went from not shooting a three as a freshman to being a top pct. as a soph.  So while they have to have some talent to work with, if they just keep repeating the same techinical errors 10,000 times, they don't get better.  Coaches (who know what they are doing) can be an objective observer and tweak what needs tweaking.  That whole conversation about shooting was interesting.

YES. 100%.

He also said we would have won 5 more games if we consistently played with effort...as many of us have been saying.

Also said he did not watch a single complete game this year because of how we play.

It will not get better. Time for a change.

This got me thinking and I realized something: a lot of IU fans' obsession with in-state recruiting is a matter of misunderstanding correlation vs. causation. We didn't become great by recruiting Indiana kids just for its own sake - rather, it was the fact that we were great that made all the top talent in the state WANT to come here.

Of course, when you're talking about low information fans on Facebook (the kind who are convinced Steve Alford would have success here because he "understands the history") they're not thinking in these terms, they're just picturing cornpone imagery of kids shooting hoops on the side of a barn as if that's still anything resembling reality. They really do think there's some preternatural mystical quality to being from Indiana that somehow makes kids better basketball players. It's funny until you remember this is the mentality of such a depressingly large chunk of IU's fanbase.

There's no paywall, you can repost it. Its the screenshot of the below tweet and then someone posted that Kent Sterling said the press conference is a rumor.

Yeah Kent sterling said they wouldn’t have a press conference for a change in employment status, just a press release. The Press conference would happen when a new coach is hired.

Not saying there will be a press conference but he is wrong. They had a press conference after it was announced crean was fired lol

There was a tweet from Indy Sports Partizan last night posted saying “sounds like some good news coming tomorrow.” I looked more into that tweet and someone asked if he had any additional info, and he said “seen a few different people say there will be a press conference tomorrow. That could only mean one thing.”....so depending on where or who he saw that info could make it legit, or not. I sure as heck hope that if there is indeed one that it’s not Dolson coming out explaining reasons why we are going to stick with Arch, but that just doesn’t seem to make sense.

Edit: LIHoosier posted link of tweet before I saw.

Yeah it was the check plus conference and then I believe the Archie hire was just a press release was it not? If that's the case then Kent has it backwards. Kent also said IU should wait until July when new president is in place. IMO that's just stupid unless you've got a Stevens guarantee. Oh and sorry guys wasn't sure what was and was not allowed to be shared.
