Yes, my point is that people are enamored with a coach that they wouldn’t actually be enamored with if we had him.

And “done a lot more” is a bit of a stretch. If you want to say it appears at this moment in time that the trajectory of Illinois under Underwood is slightly better that IU under Archie, then fine. But that story hasn’t been fully written. And saying he’s done a lot more, to warrant being enamored with, is again, quite a stretch.

Well year 3 and Illinois finishes 4th in the B1G and ranked 21st while Indiana was 10th and a bubble team. Year 4 is looking to be about the same.

The calls/texts were not that big of a deal.  But he intentionally broke the rules and also the reports of rampant drug use and players skipping classes did not sit with me.  Since then IU has been too squeaky clean for its own good and has failed to land 'the guy', but despite his coaching ability I for one am glad Sampson is in our rear view mirror.

He wanted to win quick while at IU. He got great players , turned out the players weren’t so great off the court. The man can coach for sure.

Is Indiana even a good job anymore? Serious question.

These kids weren’t even born when Indiana was good. They don’t know who Bob Knight is and I’d argue some couldn’t tell you where Indiana is on a map. Assembly Hall is cool yeah, but it’s not an arena. Our practice facility is starting to become dated.  We were only relevant in 2012 and 2002. Can we land top notch recruits here anymore? CTC recruits went downhill once our cheating assistant coach moved on.

Coaches turn non good jobs into good jobs all the time.  Imagine 40 years ago somebody telling you Virginia was a better job than Indiana.

Archie was a top 10 paid coach when he signed his contract.  We are paying for results we just aren’t getting them

Of course it is. Even removing our 5 championships, we’re the state school, facilities are not top notch but better than most, pays coaches top 15 in the country, unlimited recruiting budget, in the best conference in America, on TV all the time and top 5 fanbase in terms of size in the country.

it has everything one needs to succeed

You're right, Archie is killing this program.

But yes, every high level recruit knows who Bob Knight is and yes every high level recruit knows we have NCAA titles.

Lander can shoot. But there is a period of growing pains you'll have to go through with him. Same with Leal. Both should be getting way more minutes.

Lander is shooting 23% on the season. He may be able to shoot in HS, but he's not some savior of this team. Same with Leal. If they were the answers this team was searching for they'd be playing 30 minutes. Should Lander be playing more, certainly, but he's not going to instantly make us a exceptional offensive team simply by playing over Rob. If anything I see Archie going to have to go to a PG by committee approach, some Rob, some Al, some Lander. Play the hot hand, something's going to give as the team needs some stability from the PG position.

So this is “a lot”? They beat us by 1 point in their home court last year and there was not much separation from 4th and 10th place. You’re lying to yourself if you think there was. They were projected as a 7 seed, us a 9. You’re saying this year is looking to be about the same. This all proves my point. People are enamored with a coach that they would not be enamored with if we had him. Yet those people are surprised that others question their coaching change arguments.

We’d love to be enamored with Archie but he’s not giving us anything to be enamored with. Unless you’re happy with 10th place conference finishes.

Absolutely. The brand is still there. We still rank very high in attendance, we still play in an elite conference, we still have a ton of talent coming from our own state to recruit from, we have great facilities, we still get great TV exposure....

Living down here in college football land, I can’t tell you how many times when I tell somebody I went to Indiana, their immediate response is something like “oh so you’re just looking forward to basketball season?” I wouldn’t say we are a top 5 job anymore. But you can make an argument we are still top 10.

High level recruits now barely know about our 12-13 team. If at all. A kid in the 2021 class was what? 9 or 10 at the time? They really don't care. They were like 14 when we won the B1G 2016.

Our TV exposure isn't going to turn out very great this season. Last I looked, we don't play on ESPN until February. And that's on ESPN against Illinois. Now that may not be set completely in stone yet, but I mainly saw BTN and FS1. We aren't exactly a big hit for Primetime.

I agree with you. I’m not enamored with Archie right now either. I’m sure most people who are labeled as sunshine pumpers aren’t enamored with Archie at the moment either. But that doesn’t have anything to do with my point. Which is constant coaching change talk that includes being enamored with a coach who hasn’t done much of anything to be enamored with by people who we know would have these exact same threads blowing up if we had that coach.

Let's see:  you're not responsible for the roster you put together and expectations aren't allowed so it doesn't matter if in year 4 players that you recruited and only played for you can't hit the easiest shot in the game or if even showing up is a coin toss; it only matters if the coaches beating you think you're doing great.  All while getting paid millions

Yeah, sounds horrible.  Where do I sign up?

In all fairness I think I as well as a decent number on this board could show the guys how to hit more FTs.

Lander has to play more because of RP’s struggles.  Durham is not a point guard.  Just because he can handle the ball doesn’t mean he should.  Lander is the only one that plays with any pace.

Durham is not being used to his strengths.  His ‘strength’ is shooting the ball on ball swings.  He has also shown he can take a couple dribbles and pull up and hit from inside the arc.  I don’t know how many tools he has in his toolkit but it’s not pounding the ball being a point guard.

I don’t like being critical of individual players but their has been one I have been.

Jerome.  Hunter.  Cannot.  Play.  Basketball.
Can we PLEASE sit him on the third row or whatever it is now on the sidelines behind Leal and Geronimo?

You keep perpetuating something that doesn’t exist.

there is a reality, that Other teams and coaches are maturing at a faster rate than IU and there is a football school and a nothing school that replaced their coaches at the same time we did and they are both in a better place than us. Those are the facts. Your hypotheticals and absolutes about what we would do “if” isn’t even an argument.

and nobody has stated they are enamored but Underwood, he is just a very relevant and fair comparison, that’s it
