Are We Better Than Last Year?

I'm indeed different when it comes to winning here at IU. I led the tank train to get Crean fired many moons ago on this board. It's Indiana, championships or busts. Until I see Brad Stevens walk through the door, I don't think we're getting there under anyone. (Brad has his flaws, but you get what I mean I assume).

2. I'm a different basketball mind, I don't measure a youth of a team on who starts. That's a different perspective for yourself, but good for you.

If we are young in year 4 under Archie that’s on him. He’s got one guy left over from Crean and that guy is a senior. This is his roster. If it’s too young that’s on him. It’s not an excuse anymore

Yes, I'm still watching.  If I quit, I'm a quitter.

I'm an alumnus who will always want us to do well and will demand change when we are not.

Complacency is accepting and defending mediocre results.

Good luck.   Watching something that should bring you joy shouldn’t make you miserable.  Hopefully it changes for you

so basically you coming on here and demanding change each year is some sort of therapy for you so you don’t get complacent

Nah, I'm trying to rally the troops to see the light.  I'm preaching to grow the crowd to run this dude out of town.

Just curious, are you drunk? I get being mad and frustrated, you just seem more than amped after this loss.

Trust me, I get it and I’m half-way off the bandwagon. I’ve talked with several IU fans that I think Archie’s stubbornness of offense will most likely be his undoing. However, I just can’t totally get the bad shooting. Our team has decent and okay shooters, but when they get here it all disappears.....

Either way, try to relax and let’s see how this year plays out. This is a make or break for Archie because if this sort of offense continues, the recruiting will fall hard and results will get worse.

I was thinking about this as I was prepping for my law final exam later this week...

Trayce mentioned something about a discussion he had with Archie about returning fir his sophomore year. I believe Archie told him he would have to play like an All-America if he returned. What has happened to that drive to be an All-America...? The talk is easy, the walk is much harder.

This team will go as Trayce goes. If he starts playing like an All-America baller it’ll make it easier for those around him. Let’s see how he responds after two subpar games.

This team did more than enough on the defense to win this game. Texas didn’t get a lot of easy looks. The problem was complacency on offense.

Man up and respond with a better and more disciplined effort tomorrow.

I still have some hope for this staff to get something going and keep it going, but today was the 15th loss by 15 points or more under CAM.  Losses of this magnitude occurred 5 times in the first season, 5 times in the second season, 4 times last season, and once already this season.  Also, we understand that 3 pt shooting is bad but the national rankings really do show how much of a liability that has been for us:

Season 1: 315th

Season 2: 317th

Season 3: 219th (thanks Devonte vs Florida St & Iowa)

It's a small sample size so far, but through 3 games we've already been routed once and are shooting 27.9% as a team from 3.  Until the competitiveness is more consistent and the shooting is better I'm afraid the ceiling for improvement versus last year and before is not that high.

1: A rebuild is going to take time. A rebuild that was much needed after Crean left us with NOTHING.

I agree that Crean did not leave a lot but look what Crean inherited. We all agree he was a bad coach, in regards to recruiting/defense/substitutions/etc.etc.etc but in year four he was in the sweet 16. A “bad” coach inherited 2 walk-ons and had Indiana in the sweet 16 in 4 years. What is a reasonable expectation for Archie?

Returning players on Creans first team:

Kyle Tabor

Brett Finkelmeier

That is unimaginably bad....

Returning players on Archie’s “NOTHING” first team

Juwan Morgan

Freddie McSwain
Zach McRoberts
Colin Hartman

Robert Johnson

Josh Newkrik

Devonte Green

FAR, FAR from a great roster but way above what Crean inherited. Also, that inherited roster was 9-9 in conference play and came in 6th in the BT both of which have  been the best of Archie’s 3 years.

I think one thing the Archie defenders fail to grapple with: lots of sustainable turnarounds start with *even less* inherited than Arch did and have things going the right way by year 3/4 or even sooner. Does one game mean the season is over? Of course not! But the offensive scheme is still poor and the shooting is poorer. Three of the four guys who’ve grown the most under Arch (Juwan, Al, Justin, Race?) were actually recruited by Crean.

I’d add that the specific recruitment/development player type failure, beyond shooting generally, is the sort of big guard/wing bucket getter that you can center an offense around. Just haven’t gotten or developed one, except Romeo.

We’ll know a little more after today’s game against Stanford. If IU looks bad again today, it could really spiral down the drain
I am preparing for the worst. I seen nothing to indicate yesterday wont be repeated unless Stanford let's us get easy layups like providence did. Holding out hope
