I think there is a law against grave digging. And it’d be awkward having a casket on the sidelines.
If we get LeBron, does Bronny come to IU?
We’d get the triangle with Phil.
If we got Van Gundy, will his brother be on staff too?

Grave digging - They haven’t said no, so they COULD come to IU and I think they would be more likely than a coach that demolished the university.

Lebron - I hear he has a great mind for the game. Hasn’t said no yet, and I like his experience more than the assistants on your list that work for specific universities that have never put out a really good coach. Wojo to this point is the best. I prefer to aim higher if we go through this again in a couple of years.

Phil - Might just bring Mitch Kupchak for that recruiting.

Jeff - I like Jeff so I wanted to add him.

Besides taking away all of those IU coaching greats severely diminished my list.

Any school that could land Lebron would get SO many recruits just begging to play for him

I talk lots of Indiana basketball with lots of fans and people.

The general fan belief in Archie right now is very low. I think I’m less negative on him than even the general fanbase.

I had a 95 yo tell me yesterday he needs to go just like “Cream”. He follows Crean at Georgia and said he wasn’t surprised. This guy was hilarious. He was pissed. He doesn’t have many years left to see a good Indiana team.

Archie needs to get better, recruit better, and figure his **** out because there isn’t some miracle coach out there that will make Indiana good without a rebuild. We don’t roll like that at Indiana. We won’t allow it.

I refuse to believe there's no coach out there who could come here and be successful right away. I'm not talking Final Four good right off the bat, I'm talking good enough to make the tournament, finish upper half of the conference, not give up 15 threes every game and make 2 or 3, not need an entire roster of his own players, not need 4 years to "change the culture," good. When you have to make as many excuses as some of our fans have about youth, system, culture, recruiting, fan support, and drop ceilings, that's an easy way to know you've got a dud on your hands.

I’d like to believe it the proof isn’t there. Unless we sign a top 3 class or knock it out of the park with grad transfers it’ll be a rebuild. Indiana can’t sign the top recruiting class in the country. It’ll never happen. No coach that comes to Indiana will do it. We don’t have bag men and we don’t have a system in place to take care of the “pro” recruits.

Why would there need to be a rebuild? This should be a 20+ win team so a new coach would inherit 5 starters from what should be a 20+ win team.

Build on that with good coaching and in year 1 could be a 25 win team and hopefully never look back

Previous players transfer or don’t buy in. Rarely works in 1 year. Plus our guys aren’t good enough. It’s more than coaching.

Slight adjustment to your last point.

If you hire the right coach, it can work. It's worked plenty of places, even here. Kelvin Sampson inherited a team that was probably less talented on paper than the previous year, but won more games with it. The reason we have fans who think new coach = rebuild is because we've hired coaches like Tom Crean and Archie Miller that made us rebuild.

That’s why I would be 100% open to bring Sampson back without a care in the world.

You might be open to it but he and the school would never go for that.

Solid coach, solid recruiter but he is the reason we sunk so low and IU fans let him know that for years

Has there been a change in the character of kids that he has recruited at Houston?

I don’t know. He has been able to make Houston relevant again, a tourney team again and kept his players eligible.

No way of knowing if they are eligible organically or if he and the school are manipulating that a la North Carolina with fake grades and classes.

This is great entertainment. I love that some would be fine circling back to Sampson. That’s great. That needs to go in the Classic posts of Btown Banners.

He’s a solid coach but I don’t want most Sampson recruits anywhere near the student population. Hard pass.

Yea because kids don’t smoke weed at other schools or cut class... or fail drug test under Crean... or get busted for trying to enter a bar under age... or more weed under Crean...

You are glossing over guys like Bud Mackey though, who were convicted several times for serious crimes.  I think you remember that several guys Sampson recruited who verballed, some of whom played for IU, were more involved in the organized business end of drugs and other things than the typical college student buying a little weed.  Think about how great those IU jerseys must have been for business.
