Loaded Chicken Sandwich Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 The why absolutely matters if you want to fire a guy in his 3rd season. Crean had 9 seasons. Archie's had 2 and a half. What are you talking about, man? Archie's results so far have very reasonable "why's." They're not excuses...they're facts. Why didn't IU win in his first year? I dunno, maybe because Indiana had no front court beyond Morgan? You think that doesn't matter? YOU try winning with Josh Newkirk, DeVonte Green, Zach Mcroberts, and Freddie McSawin. Morgan and Robert Johnson were our best players...and Morgan played out of position all year because we had nobody else. You think that doesn't matter? I disagree. This is not a lifetime pass...it's a "let's be realistic and give it time" pass. You don't fire a guy after 2-3 seasons when his recruits aren't even juniors yet. That’s not an excuse to lose to Indiana State and IPFW at home by 20. Creans first team and even 2nd team had an excuse for that. Archie’s first did not. And the same problems continue to occur. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote

The same problems occurred this season? Who is our bad loss this year? I'll wait. Dude, this is pathetic. Even for you. Living in the past and in hindsight is cheap. But I mean I guess we will count Will Sheehey too then? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Juwon Morgan has played 44 minutes in the NBA. Like I said, you're cherry picking. If this is all you've got...you can stop the fight. It's over. You're basing a comparison of rosters and trying to convict Archie over Crean because a single player played a grand total of 44 minutes in the NBA on an injury call up. This is....really...all you've got? Quote

Why did they lose like they? Bad offense and not defending the 3 point line. Two problems that still exist in his 3rd season. Creans was because he had a D2 roster. Archie just couldn’t coach. Crean even won his first game over NW State by 18. Archie just isn’t who you think he is. He’s not a good coach. A good coach would realize their philosophy just isn’t good enough and his isn’t. You’ll realize it eventually. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
Honkyman Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 I agree with Old Friend that next year will be the test. The core of the this year's team is returning (assuming TJD doesn't bolt for the pros). IU has a couple of quality players coming in who might help out some though this is Archie's weakest recruiting class to date and there are no top 30 players (usually the immediate impact players are top 30). But this team will have had a year of playing together, Jerome Hunter should finally be playing to his high potential, and Green and D'Ron Davis will be gone. So if IU continues to play next year like they have so far in almost 3 years under Archie, it will be difficult to justify. Quote

Josh Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 7 hours ago, Old Friend said: Who are your NBA players on Archie's first team? Morgan and.....who? Juwon Morgan had to play out of position that season because Davis and Hartman got hurt. Zach McRoberts played the 5th most minutes on that team. 4 of the top 5 were guards, the 5th was Morgan, who was 6'7". You want to try to win in the Big Ten with your best post player a natural "4" who's out of position, and your backup ends up being a JUCO transfer who couldn't make a jump shot into a dumpster? You and your cronies do a GREAT job of ignoring the why and looking simply at the end result, regardless of circumstances. That's very elementary, but at least you're consistent. And Archie's first year, he won 16 games. Crean won 6. In Crean's 3rd year, he won 12 games with 2 NBA players including an all star. Archie will likely win 19-21 before it's over. What exactly is your point? You're the best I've ever seen at reaching. This comparison leaves out so much of the truth, it's impossible to take seriously. Is it possible for you to have a conversation without becoming so condescending? Does it make you feel smarter to yourself? Crean walked into a roster with zero scholarship players. It was the biggest rebuild I've ever heard of in college basketball. Archie did not. There's really no comparison there Quote
Uspshoosier Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 Why do other coaches do well in their first year and yet people continue to use that as some sort of excuse. Because every coach has a different path to success or failure. Some succeed early and continue to succeed, others succeed early and fail later some fail early and succeed later. But I think at this point people are going to believe what they want. But if you ever spend any time around Bloomington or actually go to the games that’s always a topic of discussion with the older season ticket holders in the lower levels. To anyone that it doesn’t fit their narrative it’s an excuse. For me, our offense sucks. Driving lanes aren’t there for a team that can’t shoot. That’s communication, and a BBIQ issue. The BBIQ issue is on the staff. The careless passing is on the players, but trickles down to the coaches when they continually happen. Defensively, I am over the hedges from 30 feet out. I think we spend the rest of the possession chasing. What’s easier to score on? A scrambling defense or a set defense? To me that’s on the coaches. That said, ebbs and flow. We need to make the tournament to show improvement. The other things are a byproduct of a team that will be what we expected (8 or 9 seed team or not making the tournament). If we don’t make the tournament I think the right move is making a move even though I know it won’t happen this year. If we make the tournament we have to keep improving next year. College athletics for money making sports is a very different environment than it was 20+ years ago. Our admin both at the top and in the AD office run it like it’s 1985. The infrastructure of the facilities was ignored for years. It’s not all bad, but there are many things the admin office and AD office could do to be helpful.
