Bracketology and Team Resumes

Saturday rooting guide:

VCU over Loyola Chicago

Memphis over Tulane

UC San Diego over UC Irvine

Boise State over Colorado State (not bolded because either winner is probably a bid thief, but BSU has an outside shot at an at-large; other games are obvious bid thieves)

Lunardi just said on espn that he isn’t sure the IU is out of it for a bid he just doesn’t think they are that good.   It’s not a resume problem it’s a basketball problem with him and IU.  Par the course for him with IU.   They year IU got a 10 seed he had them out and I remember them asking if there was a team he wasn’t confident about and he said IU will probably get in but I’m not changing it.   Still think he will change it tomorrow where they are ahead of Unc and Texas

Committee always has a surprise or 2 each year.   The fun of doing this is trying to project what they will do.   Last year they put Virginia in the tourney when most of us had them out.   The year IU got a 10 seed most on here said IU was out when I was saying they would make it. Not only did they make it that year but Ohio st ended up being behind them on the seed list.    Hopefully this will be like that year  where people think they are out but they make it.   Let’s see if Memphis, VCU, UC- San Diego and Boise win to prevent the least amount of bid stealers.  Last year we ended up with 5 which screwed ISU

Call me a conspiracy theorist but the NCAA is desperate to drum up support for NCAA tournament expansion.

How do you help your case for doing that ?

IU vs UNC in Dayton for the first four . See how the rest of it shakes out BUT I could see that match up already being locked up.

I think the opposite what a better way to get support for expansion if you have UNC, IU and Texas miss the tourney… I think if they have all 3 miss then Big 12, SEC and Big 10 might be more favorable of expansion

people who know much more on the process can correct me if I’m using faulty logic.  There should be no way IU is behind all of UNC, Texas, and Xavier.  What the committee focuses on could ultimately put one in over us but their resumes are so different that we would be ahead of the others.  For example, Texas has lots of Q1 wins but a lot of losses.  NC has a lot of wins but none being quality.  Xavier has the most wins recently.  The only thing working against us could be NET?

I would be willing to bet that they will not leave UNC out of the dance even though they have only one Q1 win. The NCAA has always been dirty. Some reason they love UNC.

All depends on what they find the most important this year.   NET number won’t hold IU back.  Total body of work over the year.  It will be interesting to see however I do have IU ahead of each of these teams for different reasons.  I would rank them IU, Texas, Xavier then UNC

UNC's predictive metrics put them. 15-20 spots above IU as well.  It's usually less important than other metrics, but that's a pretty big gap.

IU's win @ Michigan St. could be a big difference though.

Purdue at home as well.  Another win against a protected seed.

I go to the first 4 every year. Never been a disappointment yet.   One of my favorite 2 days of the year

Did you go the very first year they did the first four? I can’t even remember what year that was!

Not the first but my wife and I have been going for a long time.  Missed the Covid year and the year after when it was limited in Indy

That is something I have never been to but need to get to. There is nothing better than the NCAA tournament. I will be down in San Antonio this year for the Final Four.
