Good Green is easily better than Phinisee, and that’s no knock on Rob. Last night showed the jump that I’ve expected to see from Devonte all year and I believe he can keep this up throughout conference play. Thinking it’s more of him understanding that he can still be the guy this year as long as he can keep the flashiness in check. However, the behind the back attempt to De’Ron did not make Archie happy lol

Oh yeah definitely didn't mean it as a knock on Rob. He's been great this year and better than I expected him to be as a freshman. Just that as long as Phinisee isn't out for an extended period of time, I'm not too concerned so long as Good Green shows up. As soon as that Green/Davis fast break started I knew he was going to try some kind of flashy pass, lol.

If it happens in one game, there can be a fix.  If it happens in two, that could be coincidence.  When it happens all the time, that's an issue that needs addressed.    What do you think causes the issues?

Honestly I feel all of the starters are too laid back in general. We don’t have that fiery Coverdale or Moye. We have Rob, Smith, Langford, Al, and Morgan. All five very laid back people that just seem to not play until they get punched in the mouth. I am the opposite so when I played those types of personalities drove me nuts but that’s just what I see. The flip side to that is they don’t get rattled when the game is close to the end.

I can see that.  I do think Morgan has fire in him, but I agree with the rest.  I'm hoping that's the issue, because otherwise the gameplans are the problem.

He looked fine walking to the locker room

In the Archie interview on The B1G Show, he said they kept him out as a precautionary measure and will be day to day

Not only did he walk off okay, but he seemed to not want to leave the bench...much less the court.  That doesn't mean anything at all, but you asked if he walked off okay.  That said, apparently concussions can keep you out for five weeks or longer (based on Race Thompson's absence).
Any student athlete who shows signs or symptoms of head trauma must be thoroughly evaluated by the team's physician before clearance to practice or play.  Phinisee put his hand to his head like we all have after smacking ourselves against a floor or other object.  Because of this (this is a sign or symptom based on NCAA guidelines for concussion protocol), he had to be removed from the game and now he must await clearance.  I'm not too confident based on how long IU's staff has kept Race out and after hearing Archie's "pessimistic" post-game comments, but Archie likely only said what he did because they won't (can't) rush anyone back for fear of it being more serious than they realize.
But....I know nothing...and that might be because I may have suffered many concussions before too (considering I can recall several times in my life when I placed my hand on my head because it hurt).
I hope it's nothing more than the team being careful...and hopefully Archie just mentioned a worst-case scenario because he (and the staff) are still in the dark at this early stage.  Fingers crossed.
We really don't know how hard Race was hit in the head compared to Rob last night. So I really don't think we can compare the 2 yet.

We do know that race was 'knocked out' while Rob did not lose consciousness

They weren't bringing the energy to start the game, but it is also Central Arkansas on December 20th. After they woke up (and some words from Archie) they brought the energy and cruised to a victory and gave some of the younger bench players some experience. Hope Rob is okay!

This is my take, also.  It may not have been 100% effort, but that's human nature.  They easily outclassed these guys.  Even that behind the back pass by Devonte, I like him more for trying it.  He knew Coach would yell at him either way, might as well try to make a highlight with your buddy.  In a close game, I wouldn't have liked it.  This was not that.  And I'm all for diving for loose balls, except it just cost us another player, in this case our starting PG.

I think I saw some mature players out there.  Romeo played a mature game, really just playing team basketball.  Good positioning for rebounds, good heady plays.  Justin's game had shades of Juwan, just really playing within the flow of the game and taking the available shots, using his body and positioning well, and finding opportunities through playing hard.  Clifton used some physicality a few times, fought for position.  This might seem like a stretch, but the guys just seemed older, like there's been a change.  Justin didn't try NBA drives that he's not suited to do, Romeo eschewed the fashionable white socks/shoes/tights look for a more subdued and business-like black shoe, no tights.  Al had a 1000 yard stare to accompany some facial hair.  Devonte's post-game sounded like a seasoned player.  I've previously diagnosed these guys with the yips.  Don't look now, but our shooting is getting respectable.  Last night we went 37.5%, much of that from Green going 6-10.  Remember, he shot terribly early, maybe 1-15, to start the season.  So water is finding its level.

Defense was good.  Central Arkansas's 2nd worst offensive game, after Louisville.  Take out the first 5 minutes, it would have been spectacular.

What's the deal with McRoberts?  Zero points on one attempt in 12 minutes?

I don't think he had much of a choice... he could either try the behind the back or pull it back out... either way the fast break is over... we didn't lose the possession. It was bad floor spacing by both of them but the pass itself wasn't bad, it got deflected... sometimes that happens.

I am absolutely THRILLED when he tries to make those passes because they work many times, and I know there isn't anybody else on our team willing and able to make them. Maybe I am a bit biased as that is my playing style as well, I love to pass and specifically love to make the pass nobody on the court sees coming (except the recipient of course).

So I guess we shouldn't shoot 3's, shouldn't dunk the ball, no floaters, no crossovers... everything should just be a layup or a short jumper because highlight plays are meaningless and there is no reason to be cute. Except every highlight play brings more spotlight to the team and more visibility for fans, future recruits, etc.

Give me Green all game every game.

Good Green still wants to be bad Green. He cant help himself.

Green played well overall yesterday and about as smart as you can expect from him.  We've also seen that's the exception and not the norm with him, too often he is just bad.

The kid just doesn't shoot. Really hoping he doesn't get significant minutes in Big Ten games because we're playing 4 on 5 whenever he's on the floor.

I gotta agree.. He hasn't scored in the past five games and he's only taken 4 shots during that stretch. Four shots in 86 minutes.. Yikes. Not forcing bad shots is one thing, but McBob just flat out refuses to shoot. We can't afford to play 4 on 5. He brings some other good things to the floor, but if he's a complete nonfactor on the offensive end then he shouldn't be playing more than spot minutes.

I love McBob. I really do. But I feel the talent level around him has passed him up. He is what he is and that’s a glue guy. Still important for sure.
