(2021) PF Caleb Furst to Purdue

Recommended Posts

Last night FW Blackhawk defeated Elkhart Christian Academy 99-54.   3 players for Blackhawk combined for 72 of the 99 pts. but I've not found any mention of Furst  participating in the game.

Further digging indicates he either didn't play at all or left in the 2nd Q due to an injury.

@Cornfieldhoops: Rumor has it IU Head Coach Archie Miller will also be in attendance at the Old National Bank Tournament @ North Daviess.

Fort Wayne Blackhawk vs Brownstown Central @ 4:30.

Schedule

Blackhawk won 46-31 as neither team shot particularly well.  Furst finished with 7 pts. and 10 reb. in his first game since suffering a hand injury 3 weeks ago.

FW Blackhawk beaten by Homestead 51-44.  My highly officially unofficial scorecard had Furst with 8 pts. on 3-8 FG; 2-2 FT; 5 reb; 2 assts; 2 TO; 2 blks.  Blackhawk played man-to-man defense exclusively and Furst guarded Homestead's leading scorer (Goode) who averages 18 ppg.  In the first half, Furst held him to 3 pts. but the game stream didn't provide any post-game stats.  Most of the time Goode ranged around the 3-point line which kept Furst away from the basket most of the time while on defense.  This was the first game I've actually seen Furst play and didn't realize he's a southpaw.

Homestead always is a poor mans Carmel here in Fort Wayne. Similar schools in makeup and athletics. Not surprised by this result.

Just goes to show that these 5 star recruits struggle to dominate even HS ball often times.

Recent examples with TJD and Lander as well.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, Furst had the assignment of guarding Homestead's leading scorer Luke Goode who averaged 18 ppg.  In the first half Furst limited him to 3 points and for the game he only scored 11, 6 of which were 4th Q FTs so Furst demonstrated he knows how to play defense.
