Post Game Discussion : Indiana 55 vs Michigan 69

Maybe, but probably not.

Garland and Shittu offer higher end talent to play with than IU can offer. Sadly.

They do? Neither one is one and done. Therefore it’s widely accepted they aren’t coming in like high end UK one and done talent. The rest of their roster is awful. If he is going off of high end talent he is going to Kansas.

We were slow and indecisive on both ends today and still somehow managed to play Michigan even after that horrible start. We were a team that looked mentally fatigued. Being home will help against Iowa but rest and practice time would really help.

Need a good start to get the crowd out of it. UM is pretty young this year—hoping for a lot of turnovers from them and that we continue to take care of the ball. Go Hoosiers!

Iowa is a must win given we will probably get smoked the next two games

Well.... Romeo is #5, Shittu is #6, and Garland is #13 comprehensively. These are UK type talents. Clear 5 stars. Maybe the rest of the roster is awful but boasting 3 guys that highly regarded would be reason for extreme optimism and higher top end talent than even Kansas.

This blows another three year rebuild before we are a serious player in the big ten. Losing garland is a big big deal.

I never understood why we've been pinning our hopes on him to be competitive next year. I have no faith whatsoever about relying on a freshmen PG. Have K and Cal done it successfully once or twice? Yes. But of all the positions on the floor, an upperclassmen at the point is most vital. Green and Phinisee will suffice.

Romeo on the other hand is a scorer who can rely on veteran players to help set him up, on top of him doing his own thing on the court. IMO he has always been a more critical target to competing next season. Garland would have been nice, but I've been completely indifferent about his and any other 5* PG's recruitment, and that will likely remain going forward, especially if they're perceived to be one-and-done.

I hate how we played but hearing Archie post game pressed holding the team accountable is so refreshing.

Yes for sure. He doesn't say I have to look at the film or go over stats. He knows we got are @$$ best today, knows why, and will address it moving forward. Plus, he looks at the stats like our assists and understands the guards killed us. I like he said we're not gonna dwell on it either.

My bad. More of “created at Wisconsin”. I should have put that in cause that is what it was under old Bennett and stayed for a period after he left. Like when Knight had the motion. Everyone had variations. Trust me when I say it is not my intentions to defend him to you or anyone because it would be pretty idiotic to ***** about where things are at this point. I didn’t think we were to that point yet. As for the Wisky dig? Congrats? Go to more Wisconsin games I am an IU fan, I don’t care where your fandom is?

I’m not trying to “dig” on you man. I just go to a lot of games. I’ve been on here for a number of years as have you brother. I’m sure you know my hatred for UW. You guys have Purdue, I have Wisconsin. I haven’t exactly been coy about it. I can’t get down to Bloomington much, so I go catch the games down the the road or at Northwestern. Been to Iowa quite a bit as well. As for our argument here, you took exception to me claiming I didn’t like the defense, and for the record that’s all I said. I didn’t say the pack line sucked (like the other dude claimed I said) or that it could never improve. I just said I didn’t like it. I don’t, not for this team. It’s way to prone to the 3....Fact. All...ALL of the conference teams we will face, average 25-35 3 pta per game. They live there, right where the team is weakest. That’s all my opinion expressed. No more. The situation didn’t call for a snarky comment about what other teams run it, especially when one of them listed hasn’t in 20 years. You made a good point about having the right players for it to work and I agree. But, I’m not sure it will work now. That’s all I was trying to say.

What USPS said and it’s not even close if it’s a talent thing.

Romeo is a must get or your looking a another rebuild next year. Maybe year three you can talk ncaa tourney. Crean took over a program in bad shape and left the program in bad shape. Never should of been around those last two years.

To be a successful team you have to excel in a few areas to win consistently.
- play smart
- play with toughness
- shoot well
- take care of the ball
- play great defense

When we do most or all of these we can be a pretty good team that competes. When we don't do any of these we can lose by double figures to a so so Michigan team.

In previous years we would have to hope we were on from deep and didn't make too many mistakes. We'll be able to win more consistently with this system.

CAM is trying to implement a completely different style than these players were recruited to or have played in for years. It won't happen overnight.

I expected a slip up on the road after a short turnaround from a big game at home. We'll see more games like this throughout the season as it's unfortunately not a linear progression. We don't have the players to compete. We have players who are inconsistent in their effort, awareness, and basketball skills.

Newkirk looked like it was his first time handling a basketball. How you completely run by a driving Wagner to give up an easy layup and then later get the ball stolen by their 5?! Not to mention jacking up DUMB shots as a 5th year senior.

Johnson looked like he was on cruise control again.

Davis made some good moves but couldn't finish.

Morgan had a good game converting down low.

We need to feed the post and play from there. None of our guards can consistently create shots for themselves or others. We just need to finish at the rim.

I want to see the players that are returning continue to progress and build towards next season.

The best thing today was Archie's answer to the question about Duke. Everything else sucked but it was really refreshing to hear. Once he gets things rolling I firmly believe that we will be a top program again. It's just a matter of patience waiting for that to happen.

I guess we've been patient 30 years so what's another 5 I guess. I really thought this team would be better though.
