Post Game Discussion : Indiana 55 vs Michigan 69

Yep. Hopefully Archie will get it done but honestly we just don't know yet. He is still in the honeymoon stage. The same one crean got for three plus years. Everyone always thinks the coach will get it done when they first come. Hopefully this coach can.

I can’t speak for anyone else but, I have a much different feeling about recruiting under Arch than I did under Crean. Now, I’m not necessarily thinking he comes up with constant 5 stars, but rather a consistent mix of highly rated kids that fit into his system. I get the feeling that we will see very few years where we get caught with our pants down after a season of success.

My point was people were singing creans praises when he first came as well. I wasn't but a lot were. Given Archie has need coached at this level we just don't know yet. I like the hire but I've learned not to get my hopes up the last 15 years.

Well Romeo isn’t coming if Indiana doesn’t have a good season. That is a FACT. This team ISNT going to be a .500 team this year. So connect the dots... this team becomes an NIT team next season instead of a CBI team. And then year 3 could very well be when things get going into the NCAA tourney as a 6-10 seed.
While i do agree about your ncaa timeline you act like you have a big romeo source.Do you have inside knowledge? Do indeed share please. I mean yes we probably won't finish 500 due to finally having a brutal non conference but still where's your Romeo source?

Lmao not NCAA team next year? No just no. If that’s the case he will be on the hot seat in year 3. One year? Sure, this team is poorly constructed and he ultimately has a couple weeks to reinvent the wheel before the season began. Next year? There is a comfort level and I am guessing growth. I would be shocked if we aren’t a NCAA tournament team next year.

Edit: If we aren’t a NCAA team next year Archie should be on the hot seat going into year 3 with zero margin for error. Also, we will never be a CBI team at IU.

Do you think the talent and experience on the roster next year will be good enough to go dancing?

I had a long winded response to answer this question with why I think it is. But it really is simple. It has to be good enough.

I get why you say it has to be, but is that reality? Or just wishful thinking?

edit: I can see it going either way tbh.

I get that but it doesn't project that way. Granted Romeo changes things but in my mind he is gone, elsewhere.

We are maybe slightly better next year but we are bad this year year and have a long way to go. I don't see it next year unless Romeo and maybe a grad transfer too. The 3rd year things may take shape depending on recruiting.

PS- Romeo and a grad transfer changes my views.

Always tricky trying to project a team a year away from when they will play a game. No one for sure can say if they will be better or worse next year. Tons of examples of teams in college basketball that on paper should of been locks for tourney that for whatever reason stunk and on the flip side there are tons of examples of teams that on paper were picked to not make the tourney that made it easily. Getting Romeo and Garland might of made most on here think that IU should automatically be contenders but in reality it was never guaranteed to be the case

For this team to go dancing next year we will need some guys to take significant leaps

Disagree that it would take significant leaps to make the dance. If you looked back over the years of the last 4-6 at large teams to make the field there isn’t much separation from the remaining teams fighting for those spots. Vandy made it last year with a 19-15 record. Now if u said guys need to make big leaps to make noise in the tourney then I would agree

Lets be honest with ourselves. If we get Romeo we are looking at a 25+ win team. If we don’t? 19-23 win team on paper with expected improvements. This year we are a 17/18 win team. Not good enough to make the tournament unless we win 2 of our next 3 or get insanely hot in January and February. One or two wins over this year isn’t that hard to see for a team that isn’t fighting years of habits. Until we see how we finish it’s hard to say how next year looks. MSU will take a step back, as will NW, Minny, UM, and PU. A few of those will recruit ok and maintain, while most wont. I am not in the least bit concerned with our chances at a tournament team next season.

Some of our key contributors this year are seniors. Not only do we need players to improve who aren't leaving we also need guys who can't crack this bad rotation to be contributors next year.

You can say that for almost every college basketball team. That’s the cycle of a college program. Kids leave and others within the program improve and step up.

Yeah but our cupboard is a bit bare for that ATM since one freshmen maybe 2 are already contributors.
