HoosierAloha Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 Everyone is sleeping on us because we don't have any ready NBA talent on this roster. Yes, some guys are going to have to step up and take it to the next level especially the Soph class. However, the national media has forgotten about a guy like Hartman and how valuable he is. I worry about not having a real backup to D. Davis but other than that think we have depth at all positions. Is it too much of a jump to say we could finish as high as #3 in the conference? Outside of Mich St, I know there are solid teams like Purdue, Minnesota and Northwestern but none too scary. I believe we could have a better TEAM than most expect. It won't be because we are uber talented but because we play as a team. We have some solid pieces that should get better as the season moves along. TEAM defense could keep us in a lot of games and offense will be enough to beat decent B1G teams. I'm expecting 18-20 wins but wouldn't be surprised with a few more if we click. I expect the dumb decisions and lack of defense to be a thing of the past. I can't image we'll see a lack of effort either. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Iugradman 1 Quote

By that I mean the 25-7 run followed by the other team going on a 14-5 run. This would happen most every game. Also I would like us to be improving as the season moves on. Wins and losses will come this year. I want to see improvements. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners I think this had a lot more to do with system (see : reliance on 3 pointers) and the lack of defensive intensity than it did anything else. Whatever Coach Miller does or doesn't do, I would bet his offensive system will be more consistent; and our desire on the defensive end will improve over years past. Someone (I think Stuhoo) mentioned above that Crean's offenses were successful; and they were as long as teams didn't take away transition. When they did? Crean's offense could look downright awful. I expect better consistency on both ends under Miller; so I don't think we'll be as prone to streaks as we were. Iugradman, Class of '66 Old Fart, BGleas and 2 others 5 Quote
HoosierCoop Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 It would be nice to see an IU team win a half court game. We haven't seen that in almost a decade. If we didn't run a team out of the gym, we always seem to struggle because of the game plan (lack there of). Iugradman, ALASKA HOOSIER and mamasa 3 Quote

bigrod Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 I'd love to see a fundamentally sound and intelligent TEAM out there. It seems that too many times we had 5 players out there, but they weren't really playing team basketball. Five players who understand their strengths and weaknesses and how their role contributes to the whole. The rest will take care of itself if we see that. Also, I understand that this is the first year for all of these guys playing in a new system, so there will be growing pains (not the kind we had before). But I want to see them playing their best in March - not in January or February (or the first game of the season). Class of '66 Old Fart and mamasa 2 Quote
cljones1979 Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 We can't suck too bad or it will turn away recruits. We need to show toughness and compete every night and get better over the course of the season.Something we never did with crean. I was hoping for something between where we are now (very, very bad) and where Bob Knight's first IU team was in 1971-72 (pretty good.) Our roster even after the guys jumped to the NBA is still full of class after class of 4 Star recruits. I never did see the cupboard as bare this year. At a bare minimum I was expecting this season to be as good as Kelvin Sampson's first season. I was not expecting anything like Crean's first season because, you know, many reasons, so I never would have expected this season to compare to that one. And I was also expecting more than "but we came within 10 points of Duke," the "good loss" that is the highlight of the season. That reminds me too much of Indiana football. I did not expect to lose to Indiana State at home, or anywhere else for that matter. That one was a shocking loss. And they didn't just barely beat us. They ripped us a new p(00)ph(0)1e. At Assembly Hall. And I did not expect to get our (@)$$es handed to us by Michigan no matter where we play them. I guess we have different expectations. I did not expect that either. I wish some of the younger posters on the site could have lived when IU was a perennial powerhouse. My expectation is that we will become that again, a dynasty. chicagoHOOSIER Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Umm that. Defense that had a good team going "WTF?" Halfcourt offense forcing fouls on a team that is great at not fouling. Not The Reds like some suggested we have become. Nice expected win against our little brothers in the State of Indiana. Expected win against a back end of the Top 25. Shocking when we lose these games. Not shocking when we win them. I am extremely happy for Coach and the team. They know they are good, and now they are learning they can win and win big. Neutral court wins, and wins on the road. ALASKA HOOSIER, HoosierAloha and Str8Hoosiers 3 Quote

Sent from my SM-J700T using Tapatalk Aside from the won-lost predictions there were a lot of comments about improved fundamentals, good defense, half time adjustments, etc but now the narrative seems to be "what do you expect from these rotten kids". i hope CAM works out, and it is too early to judge, but he certainly does not seem to have the team fully behind him. As I have said before the lack of consistent effort is among the most disturbing things going on. This is not a "CAM was a mistake" post but it does seem appropriate to at least say if the season so far has been a pleasant surprise or a bit of a disappointment. Right now I would have to go with disappointment....and not just because of the W-L record. Maedhros 1 Quote
