2018 General Recruiting Thread

I wouldn't be opposed to Forrester if he who the staff believes he is... I doubt we see two top 50 bigs (Davis +1) in the next year. We need that recruit who is okay with working hard and not getting a lot of minutes. That could be Forrester.

This staff was hired with the expectation that they have a complete (but not infallible) sense of what a successful roster will be comprised of to win a national championship.

If, after seeing him play repeatedly and knowing WAAAYY more about him than I do, they think that Jake Forrester is one of the pieces toward that goal, then who am I to gripe?

To Archie's defense he has no where near the PT to offer that Crean did and it still wasn't that much better. Rankings are just numbers. How Archie does with those kids is another thing. Also Crean lost a whole roster which is worse case but also knew expectations weren't high. Archie comes in and loses the 3 best players and has tourney expectations with not a single player that is technically his. I will judge Archie a heck of a lot more on his 19 class than this years. Besides the mid to low level 4 stars that was the best he was gonna do in that short of time frame. Romeo is an exception being an in state kid, but we all know the top talent is usually set on their top 5's by the time the season starts. The 5 stars have been getting attention from their top schools for years.

Yeah, we are losing 3 likely starters off this roster though. We have lots of PT to sell to recruits. I think Archie is doing just fine with recruiting so far. Hard to expect more right away plus Archie isn't necessarily looking for 1 and dones. He is a big proponent of his development system. I'm trusting the process and not judging the recruiting as harshly. Crean needed all the help he could get and that's why I fretted over recruiting more. Archie will get more from less to a degree. I'm not expecting miracles but I'm interested to see.

Still hoping to pull Romeo.

Meh. I guess I will trust the staff that they believe he will outperform his ranking. Someone on another board posted about how Crean's early recruiting was better than Archie's thus far. That could change if Romeo commits.

Creans first class was better than Archie's? Who was in that first class?

Creek, Hulls, Watford, Elston, Capobianco, Muniru.
I don't count the 2008 class because he scrambled that together at the last minute. 2009 he had time to put together.

So it is hard to compare. 2009 Crean had a full year to recruit. Archie has had a couple of months. Can't compare to creans 2008 because that was a mess but not fair to compare 2009 to this class.

Could be wrong, but I believe FCTC's first class was Malik Story, Nick Williams, Devan Dumes, Tijan Jobe, Verdell Jones, Tom Pritchard, and Matt Roth in '08...the Hulls/Watford class was YR 2.

Edit- Re-read your last line, agree on not being an apples to apples comparison.

The question is, what do we need more to fill out the class? A guy 6'11+? I'm not against it. As long as the talent is there, no more MSB's.    Romeo is important considering what we will be inevitably losing.

A scout on another board said (I'm paraphrasing )if he was a college coach he would take forrester over brown because brown's ranking is mostly on what he can be when he is older. He said a 22 year old Brown could be a stud but a college coach will be getting the 17 or 18 year old version for 1 or 2 years before he leaves. Forrester could be a really good 4 year player and even all league by his senior could more valuable for a college program

I like the sounds of that. I will take a good 4 year guy who will be really good by a senior.

I know the article says that, but let's be real. The Crester was pushed out of 247 when the merge occurred. He is the guy who used to own HSN and sold to 247. There are other reasons I know that isn't true. One being common sense business. Why would you pay 2 people on separate platforms to do one job? It is a good lip service I have seen personally before. I give it one year before one goes down or a rebranding occurs.

Looks like HSN is on the move again(247 didn't renew their contract) HSN 3.0

I would say this instant might be a little different because of the brand name of Scout compared to Crester's creation. If both are striving financially as separate entities under the CBS umbrella I don't see CBS merging but if scout starts struggling I agree with you they will merge

They have a solid gathering. Some people are pretty good. Definitely more on the rose colored glasses side.

The one that seems pretty clear to me? We want to take two more for 2018.

That would very likely leave us with at least two open rides for 2019 (One guaranteed with Juwan, + Romeo/DeRon/some other early entry), and a 'most likely' number for 2019 given the dynamics of ever-changing rosters of three rides for that year.

Probably too early to tell who is on track to graduate early then grad transfer, isn't it?  Not that they should or would want to leave early from what Coach Arch is building but ...
