2018 General Recruiting Thread

Recommended Posts

Hopefully, we'll be watching a lot of IU commits for years to come.  2018 could potentially have 4 future Hoosiers (Phinisee, Anderson, Hunter, and Langford) and 2019 Brooks.  I would totally stoked with that happening.  How about 2019 we have Hurt's high school team make a trip down from Minnesota...

Don't forget Trayce Jackson Davis.

It's almost silly to think in terms of '19 because it's so far away, especially for the guys I'm about to talk about but it can be applied in general. IU is right there with some uber-talented, 5 star, one and dones for '19. Say IU takes two of Brooks, Watford, Hurt or Wiseman - that 2018 "foundational" class becomes incredibly important. It's what keeps the program afloat the next year when those '18's are now a year older and experienced and fills the loss when the '19 talent leaves.

If Archie is able to get IU in a place where they're recruiting one to two 5 stars a year, those top 45-100 players become just as important.

Fwiw, that is my ideal recruiting strategy. Obviously you never turn down talent but I think the recipe for success lies in either one to two 5 stars or borderline 5 stars. Clear elite talents, surrounded by solid, solid 2-4 year guys.

Agree on both the foundation of the 2018 class and the recruiting strategy.

The one problem that strategy could present is if those foundation players don't want to wait another year to play significant minutes.  In 2019, I don't see it as much of a problem because the uber talents are of a different position than what we're bringing in for 2018.

I would like to see mostly solid 4* (30-100) that don't believe they're OAD mixed with an elite recruit or two.  At the tail end I'd like to see high upside, great students, great teammates that want to get better and win as a team.  Every once and awhile these players will get run as an upperclassman or when injuries occur.

We only lose 1 person for the 2019 class.

So if we fill up with 5 people in the 2018 class then we need 2 extra people to leave early in order to get 3 people in 2019.  If we get Romeo and/or Garland, then they may be 1 and dones that would help in that regard but that isn't a given.

There are too many good options for the 2019 class to go with only 1 scholarship available.  Unless we get some 1 and dones, I hope Archie limits the 2018 class to 4 players.

I really think if we don't get Romeo that scholarship will remain open with 2 being available for 2019. Add in a possible transfer and we are right back to a 3 man class.

I think we have 3 scholarships available in 2019.  Morgan and then a combo of open scholarship or transfers.  Hopefully, we land a few 5* that will stick around for a few years.  I would really prefer getting one or two and dones in larger classes but it won't always happen that way.
