6'1" vs 5'11"

And comp #30 vs. #114

Otherwise yeah.

Berry was measured at 6' at LBJ camp, Hoop Summit and PG Skills Academy

He is better but he averaged 4 ppg as a freshman and 13 as soph and 14 this last year.

Would love to later find a better PG but for now RP seems to be who they want and there are other smaller guards who have excelled in college (Berry)

I have faith in Archie too. Doesn't mean Rob Phinisee is Van Vleet or Frank Mason or Joel Berry.

He is a good player. I am not saying he isn't.

It'll be interesting to me to watch. I could see him being a good piece, just not the answer anytime soon.

I'd be pretty happy if he turned out to be like Van Vleet

Based on what? I guess I'll have to excuse myself from RP talks going forward.

No need to excuse yourself from RP moving forward you can't like everyone the staff is prioritizing. Interesting fun debate on both sides.
He isn't the first recruit that has been debated on whether he will be good enough for IU or not and he won't be the last. I'm sure 3 years ago there was someone else people were passionate about should get an offer or not. Regardless of where he goes in 2 years there will be a debate about another senior in high school and whether he is good enough and no one will remember or care about the RP talk. The loop will continue. Lol

It also doesn't mean he will be a 3 star dud

That's exactly it. Berry was a borderline 5 star. Expecting RP to be Berry isn't fair and even Berry took time to find his place. Berry also still has limitations individually but has been surrounded with incredible talent that has helped him.

I think this is where our differences lie...I'm not saying RP is the difference maker. My backing for RP assumes he provides backup minutes year 1 and 2, and possible starter minutes year 3 and 4. IU needs a PG. Going forward, they need a true, pure PG. Someone who orchestrates the offense, commands the defense, takes care of the damn ball. That isn't Green. That isn't Jones. That isn't Durham.
Look, IU can over-recruit him if the talent swings their way. But RP is important at this point.

I can get behind this for sure. As long as RP knows the deal. And the staff continues to look for the impact guy, as RP develops.

Watch his video. He looks fine to me.

Yep. He looks fine.

Then, Watch Garland or other 5 star points from any year.

You can see the differences even on highlight tapes. And yes, I've seen RP is game action too. (He's good-also appropriately ranked)

Agree. I don't think he'll be a dud but I do think he could reasonably get recruited over.

Agree he could get over recruited like everyone else on the current roster. Every team and even high 4 stars and 5 stars can get over recruited

Depends when u have watched Garland or other 5 star kids. In Westfield I saw Garland get outplayed by a pg from BABC ( Swider team) that was ranked in the 200's. If I didn't follow recruiting closely I would of thought he other kid was rated higher. I looked him up during the game and was surprised to see only northeastern had offered this kid. Not even 4 hrs later I watched Garland dominate a game from start to finish

Three years ago? That would have been Trevon Blueitt. He was a tweener with no stand out skills according to most coming out of Park Tudor. In spite of him being 40th rankings didn't matter. He couldn't lead us to a title. Same discussion every year. Some magic imaginary line drawn into sand that xxxxx player can't lead us to a title. Like we can tell what a player will be in 3-4 years. But those OAD players will get us there. Come to think of it only Duke once and Kentucky once have won exclusively due to their OAD talent. In the range we are getting players there will be busts. But there will also be the Nigel Hayes of the world. Both models have risks. I actually am ecstatic about this class to this point and would be thrilled if 2 players became quality 4 years for us. Just have to let it play out.

Neither puke or puke won a title exclusively with OAD studs. Darius Miller played a key role in the title run.

This is correct. One and dones will not win a title alone. In the OAD era only 2 teams have had a OAD on the roster and won it all. Going back a little further Melo was on a team to do it. So that's be 3 times this century. The love affair with OAD is a conundrum to me. I always want the best talent, but a quality team is far more important. That's why I'm not worried about Langford.

The key is to have OAD talent stick around for a second year.

I think the key is to consistently competing are having upperclassmen top 100 talent as your foundation and leaders while having extremely talented freshmen and sophomores. The major factor in this is having those top 100 frosh and sophomores willing to play a lesser role for a year or two while developing.

I would take RP like I have said over and over, BUT I would take Dort as an inexperienced PG, Jalen Carey x2, Garland x10, Hinton & Devoe over him.

This season will tell us a lot. If DG, CuJo or Al show more than we assume as a PG than RP may be better off elsewhere and if he is a thorn in our side so be it. He could also end up being a thorn thrust into PT at a school that has no other options. The more minutes he plays of course he will have more success, but I will compare him to our PG at the time not just how well he does. Argument is invalid no matter how good he would play elsewhere if it isn't better than our guy. Just some perspective for some.
