2018 General Recruiting Thread

I think Garland and Romeo is possible. That's the best case scenario. That would be insane

Best possible case and a decent sales pitch. A slew of Hoosier natives, including standouts Garland and Langford, commit to Archie Miller of Indiana. All the recruiting momentum for the state. If they made a run... they would be talked about forever.

That's why the sales pitch to Romeo is so good. Be the face of the new era of IU basketball. Be the one that put IU back on the map

Have to if RP committing hurts chances of landing Romeo. He's stated it's all about the players around him, and also has expressed interest in playing with Garland, who would likely be 100% out if we get RP.

For the record, I love RP and think either PG would be a great fit for us, just curious about the possible ramifications with regards to RL's recruitment.

No offense to RP but Garland wouldn't sweat it one bit if he really wanted to come here and we would still have 2 spots left and if Brown & or Dort wanted to come and Archie really wanted them, he would find a way. IMO getting RP is awesome because he is good enough to start or be our backup for a yr or two until Garland left.

I know that we want DG but I would like to get RP because that would be yet another guy that Archie targeted and got. At times with Crean he would seemingly still get a pretty good kid but one that was not the initial target.

I am far more comfortable with the recruits we get, regardless of stars, if they are guys we clearly target and get.

Here's my thing from another perspective..

Is Rob Phinisee going to start or seeing meaningful minutes over a Junior Devonte Green as a Freshman? Is he going to eclipse Green the following year.

Plus, say we swing for the fences again and get a standout point in 19? Is RP going to play over some stud freshman?

Idk. If we are truly trying to build a national championship team I don't see Rob as our guy. If he is willing to be a career backup and potentially earn is spot as an upper classman than that is fine. If he is looking for instant playing time and gets it, we likely aren't a national championship contender.

I think we need to swing for the fences at each position and have a suitable backup for each spot. DG can handle it. My money is strongly on DG over RP anyways.

Long story short, if we take Rob he needs to know we will likely recruit over him or we should if we are trying to win ships.
