Recently Indiana jumped into the mix with an offer, and Archie Miller and his staff continue to make a good impression on Hurt.
"They saw me a lot because at Dayton they were recruiting my AAU teammate McKinley Wright, and they say they love how I play." explained Hurt. "They said they will be at my games in July, and I know they have a great program."

Seems like IU's recruitment of Hurt is still in the early stages. Hopefully CAM and Ostrom can make up some ground. Hurt talked favorably about Kansas, Minnesota (where his brother plays), and UNC.

The visit went well, according to the new Rabjohns article. Matthew's father, Rich, said that he thinks the biggest thing is the message that Matthew could go to Indiana and write his own story.

Sounds like Archie and Ostrom are recruiting him hard. Hurt has some very positive quotes in here:


Indiana coach Archie Miller and assistant Tom Ostrom have been familiar with five-star class of 2019 forward Matthew Hurt for a while.

While they were at Dayton, Miller and Ostrom recruited McKinley Wright, one of Hurt’s teammates with the D1 Minnesota AAU program.
Now at Indiana, Miller and Ostrom have jumped in full bore in recruiting Hurt, a very skilled 6-foot-8 forward ranked No. 6 nationally in the 2019 class.
Hurt, from John Marshall High School in Rochester, Minn., received an IU scholarship offer on April 26, and the coaching staff has been in regular contact with the Hurt family, with an unofficial visit to IU tentatively planned for August.
“I came home from practice, and my dad was like, ‘I just got off the phone with the head coach and they offered you,’” Hurt said at the NBPA Top 100 camp, recalling IU's offer.
“My dad said the assistant has been talking to him every day. They’re trying to send a message and I appreciate it.
“They have great culture. They have great players coming to Indiana. They just got a new coach, one of the best coaches in the nation. It’s a great culture, a great community.”

A major national-level prospect, Hurt has plenty of recruiting interest with offers from Minnesota, Indiana, North Carolina, Louisville, Kansas, Arizona, Oregon, Virginia, Florida, Wisconsin, Iowa State and others.
Hurt was one of the players IU contacted on June 15, the first day college coaches can reach out directly to 2019 prospects.
Indiana is recruiting both Hurt and 6-foot-8, 225-pound four-star power forward Race Thompson, teammates on D1 Minnesota.
Ostrom grew up in Minnesota, is a University of Minnesota graduate and has strong ties in the area.
Hurt and Thompson had looked at visiting Indiana after an earlier midwest event.

“Me and Race were going to go down after that tournament. I think we’re going to go down in late August,” Hurt said.

While not a big-time athlete at this stage of his development, Hurt has top-level skill as a shooter. He has terrific form on his jumper, keeps it high and has a high release that makes it difficult to defend.
Hurt missed much of the spring AAU season with a broken hand but returned at the end of May. He said he is still getting his conditioning and shooting back.

Playing in this week’s NBPA Top 100 camp, Peegs.com had the chance to watch him in person over several days. He showed how skilled he is as a shooter from all around the arc and mid range, even though he’s only a short time removed from the hand injury.
Hurt said he recently weighed 208 pounds and wants to get to 220.
“My strengths are I can shoot the ball. I can stretch the floor. I can handle the ball if they need me to. My weaknesses are I need to get stronger, get faster. I’m trying to get in the weight room a lot, trying to get quicker,” Hurt said.

Not saying it's overly significant but we aren't necessarily on the top of his mind or we would've been included in the mix. The article also states Kansas and UNC as early favorites.

This kid seems like he could be a one and done, would be pleasantly surprised if we end up in the hunt at the end. Seems like he likes every blueblood with the others being top of mind for him

Evan Daniels: How do you think you have been playing?
Matthew Hurt: I think I’ve been playing well. Just trying to lead my team to a championship is all I’m doing right now. I think I have performed pretty well so far.
When you’re at your best what’re you doing?
I’m slashing, I’m getting to the rim, I can finish, I can shoot the ball, just trying to do a little bit of everything, defense too.
What’s next in your development?
Just try to get stronger and get faster. If you’re 6-9, strong and built then I think you’ll be pretty dominant.
What about recruiting, how’s that whole process going?
It’s going good so far.
What’s been the best pitch to you so far? Have you been hearing from coaches?
Not really, they’ve been sending me some edits. Their fan base, their facilities and stuff like that.
Which schools do you feel like have really prioritized you to some capacity?
Indiana, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, I’m open right now.
Where all have you been unofficially?
Only Kansas and I’ve been up to Minnestoa and went to Wisconsin last year, and I’m going to go to UCLA in August.
Is that the only visit you have set up?
Yeah, we’re taking our family vacation out in LA so it’s only because we’re there.
What’s the draw to stay home with Minnesota?
My brother played there so it’s pretty high up there and their program is changing a lot. They’re a great program and Pitino is changing the culture.
How would you rate today’s performance?
I didn’t play my best, I can improve a lot of things but today definitely wasn’t my best so I’m going to try to bounce back.
How is Indiana making you feel like a priority?
Telling me that I’m their guy and texting me almost every day, “what’s up? How are you?” and stuff like that. They want me to go there and that I’m the type they love to have in their program.

Scout edited the article for the Indiana x2 typo:

Son emulating father?

I think that Minny needs to show that they are still moving fwd in the program and Archie needs to show that he can come in and get some excitement in this program with results. People outside of the state don't have high expectations for next season, but I don't think they realize the young talent/veteran mix that with some good coaching could be a real good product. Picking up Thompson out of their own backyard shouldn't hurt.

I don't think we have the room for Hurt, Brooks, and Watford if we keep the wings/bigs we currently have. It would be messing with chemistry if we bring that many in on top of Davis, Moore, Smith, and Thompson. They'll be looking to play early and often. I could see us landing one or maybe two max.

Totally agree with that. But sure would be nice to see two. I think Brooks is a solid. You can't turn down one of the others!
