What a great interview with Crean. This is a FCTM that we didn't get to hear, especially in the last couple years. Candid, real and insightful into his plans, what he hopes for the program etc.

It really sounds like he wants to be a part of the program moving forward and able to come back in the future. Wish this man nothing but the best in whatever he does, and loved that he told the guys that no one can take away their accomplishments, and to go do it again, because he is going to.

Great interview! Tom Crean is first class. Always thought he was a good man. But, as a coach, the product he put on the floor this year was totally inexcusable at this level. IU could not bear another year of turnovers and more turnovers.
Wish the best for you and your family Coach.

I thought Crean said no one could take away their rings. Hope he meant Big 10 champs and not Sweet 16 rings.

Don't know if I would consider refusing to meet with your boss for the closing ceremonies "first class." It seems very childish to me. Go on in that office and get your butt fired like a man. Shake his hand, say thanks for the opportunity, and walk out the door with head held high.

If I'm his potential future AD, I'm not liking the "I'm going to Disney World!" thing. It says something about his personality, and if I have to work with him every day for the next 7 years, I would be putt off by that act.

He was going to Florida.. already on the plane.

EDIT: Crean said in the ESPN interview an NBA team was interested in him last summer.

I thought he was made aware of Fred's meeting request, but got on the plane anyway.

I believe that happened. Got the text from his agent the night before and was upset. Fred texted him the next morning but Crean already had plans to leave that morning. He's a family man and he put his family first.

I find it odd Glass hasn't even reached out to Crean yet.

Any recap? I don't care to listen to either of them talk, but I still wanna know what was said lol.

You really can't do that... a lot was said just in the way they talked... Dakich gets old real fast, and Crean makes me crazy with the way he says things... but with that said, it was a really good conversation... not sure I'd call it an interview.

And not to derail this thread, Dakich did say something that made me go "hmmm"... he said that he wanted to tell Archie that when you are the coach at Indiana, that it never ends well. It ended well for himself because he got out of coaching... but he went back as far as Lou Watson and said that it didn't end well for any of the coaches ... not Watson, not Oliver, not Knight, not Davis, not Sampson and now, not Crean.

None of the Indiana coaches ever "ride off into the sunset", as it were...

How far in advance could he have possibly planned this family get away? Our season ended only 36 hours earlier. Was Joani on price-line while GaTech was kicking our butts.

Please. His family is rich and go to Florida whenever they want. You only have one chance to man up and have a face to face with the boss who is going to fire you. You have to do that. If he and Glass have ended on bad terms, it's Crean's fault for not having that final discussion.

Crean said they planned it last minute on Wednesday.

How many coaches does it end like that for? Once a generation or 2 type coaches when you are at the top of the totem pole.

It would have ended well for Knight if he wasn't an irascible SOB. Coach K keeps producing into retirement. Same for Roy Williams. Same for Pitino. Otherwise they would be replaced as well.

Yeah, I agree with this... Dakich has been all up Fred Glass' butt for "never calling Tom Crean"... and he hit on it again in the "interview"... but the fact remains, no matter how FCTC tries to spin it, Glass contacted Crean and Crean refused to meet with him, as reported in SI, and basically confirmed in the conversation with Dakich:

Quote

The next morning, Crean got a text message from athletic director Fred Glass to meet with him, which Crean inferred was to receive news of his dismissal. He declined. “At this point, I knew what was coming,” he said, “and wasn’t going to do that.”

Despite all the warm, fuzzies that Crean is trying to spin, that is NOT classy. That's being a d!ck and refusing to own up to anything.
