Can you picture the interview?

Glass: Dane, refresh my memory, cause I wasn't here at the time. You were one of the players who threatened to leave if IU didn't hire Mike Davis, is that correct?

Fife: Yes, that is correct,sir.

Glass: NEXT!

Fife : Did you see my defense and basketball IQ back in the day?

Glass : Saw a couple clips on YouTube, you got the job!

Fife??  Get real.  Glass made clear we're looking for a big time hire.  Nothing against Fife, but that isn't he.

We are looking for a great COACH.  Teach a bunch of high school ballers to play at a high college level.  You have to get a guy who has already proven that he knows the formula to do this.  If we don't get BD, then I think we have to be expecting Marshall or Archie.  Who else, realistically, would come?  Bennett has a good situation.  Sean Miller has a good situation.  No one else really fills the requirements.

I don't see Alford being the guy.  He's been a coach for ages, and just hasn't shown the success that Glass laid out as a prerequisite.

One of the best coaches in the entire history of the game.
However, he is turning 63 years old this week, so I can't see him being any kind of real option.

Besides, he is pretty east coast

While Fife may get a good look from FG if Fife is truly interested and do we truly know that he is other than random tweets that have popped up?  Fife is a native of Michigan and been with Izzo for 6(?) years.  Returning to IU may not be his lifetime goal if he knows the MSU job is ultimately his.  In any event, FG knows this hire will be the legacy that follows him for the rest of his life and I don't think he's going to bet the ranch on Dane.  Having said that, if it's to be Fife or Alford - give me DANE to keep me SANE.

Fife played in a title game.  Fife played major college ball.  Fife is top assistant or appears to be with a coach we've all expressed we'd love to had for years.   Get he's young, but if he surrounded himself with the proper assistants, it's not all that far fetched.  Crean didn't scratch hardly any playing time in high school, let alone college.  I'm not buying Crean learned anything from Izzo.  Either way, it'd be an awfully big jump for an assistant and not fit any of Glass's criteria.

That said, name a former alum that has returned to his school and actually succeeded in recent years?  Roy Williams excluded.

Man, the Fife love is out of control.... You don't fire Crean to hire Dane Fife...

You don't fire Crean to hire Alford or Marshall either. They are all the same coaches.

1- From Indiana - CHECK

2- Played at IU - DOUBLE CHECK

3-Recruits the state well - DOUBLE CHECK PLUS

Fife is getting an interview.

Except Alford and Marshall have actually proven they can win in some fashion.

Can you explain you not wanting Marshall? You might have posted it in the past and i missed it and if so i apologize but just curious.

The old adage, "you have to spend money to make money" could not be more true in this scenario.

I'd like Fife on staff... as an Assistant.

I agree...i hope we don't have to settle for Fife.
