Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers

Recommended Posts

I believe we could be a pretty good team with two freshmen starters, BUT ONLY IF the other three starters were really good (ie; Morgan, Smith, and a very good grad transfer).

Here's the good news: Archie wants to win. Soon. He will do what it takes to get successful pieces into the lineup.

Maybe Rob takes it by storm, but if we have 2 Fr starting and neither is Romeo, I'm preparing for a rough season.  If it's 3 Fr starting (Rob, Hunter & Anderson)? Ugh, that will give me 2010-2011 flashbacks.
I do think that the opening game starters are unlikely to be the same as in March.

I agree. The expectations some of you are putting on Rob are ridiculous.

You're comparing Phinisee who wasn't even a Top 100 HS player to Yogi who was Top 25 and a burger boy. Yogi was very good. Even as a freshman. We should be happy if Phinisee is half the player.
People are delusional like this every year with new players.

I've seen Rob play a couple times. I know my expectations are a lot more than his "rating" but I truly believe he's massively underrated and will be a fan favorite here.
We cannot expect Rob and Anderson to come in and basically field the load at guard as frosh. We are is desperate need of another shooter and a grad transfer guard. Having green play 30 mns a game doesn't make me feel at ease either. That assume he stays. Durham is serviceable but can't shoot. Right now we look shaky at guard. That needs to change.

I don't put a lot of stock in HS rankings...I understand Yogi was rated higher and was/is a better player than Rob but what I'm saying is he is going to be a true floor leader and starter from day 1 and most likely for 4 years just like Yogi. He's an all around winner and a pg who looks to get others involved first but if he has to score he can and has shown that especially his senior year. I watched Yogi play at Park Tudor and I've seen Rob play in person and I can guarantee you he is HIGHLY underrated and will be more than half the player Yogi was/is...we are extremely lucky he chose to come here instead of stay in West Laffy trust me! He'll make a world of difference from Day 1.

The difference between a Freshman Yogi and a soon to be freshman Rob is Yogi had one elite trait in his quickness. Shooting wise Yogi was man made by his Sophomore year. Vision is pretty much a wash (both are pretty good). Handles were similar. Rob has some size on him coming in v Yogi. That elite trait got Yogi his ranking. Rob has sort of improved year over year. He will score more as a Frosh. I am pretty sure Rob will be fine. But as someone who has saw him yourself and not just banking on the ranking I am sure you will agree.

Edit: I would be more than comfortable saying Rob can average 7.6 points and 4.1 assists with 2 turnovers per game as a Freshman. It’s the other 3 years I am not sure he can match what Yogi did.

If Archie is the coach I believe him to be and Green WANTS to be the player he thinks he is he'll contribute next season. He has the tools sans mentality/maturity. I really hope he sticks around. I believe he can be the starting pg on a top 3/4 Big Ten team.

I believe he does too but his lackadaisical attitude drives me bonkers.

I'm hoping that Coach Miller puts enough talent around him that he won't have to do as much as Yogi had to at times.

I hope you're right, but I don't see it.

We’ll find out if Archie sees it depending on whether Green stays or not. He feels like the kind of scrappy guard Archie would enjoy molding.
