MadAboutIndiana Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 i can agree with much of this. I am enjoying this season. I lack any swagger because I am not sure how good we actually are. That's ok though, it's been a fun ride, hopefully becoming more fun. The 2013-14 could/should of been good. We disagree there. Vonleh was a beast. Loads of potential. Yogi. Evan Gordon was a good player. Sheehey was a solid player. We never found an identity and the players didn't buy into the team. Also had Troy, Stan, Hanner, Hollowell. Some players were getting minutes they shouldn't have. That was the era where subs were atrocious. It was a mess, but I can't be convinced we didn't have talent. I am in the crowd I think we will be good next year if the right things happen in the off season. Am I worried though? Of course, because of track record.Sheehey, Gordon, Stan, Hanner... I disagree that that is talent. That season was just horrible. It's all good! I've said my piece. Let's take it outright tonight! edit: one would think having a Yogi and a Vonleh would be enough to get to the tourney. I can respect that POV. It just never worked. Making baskets definitely makes a difference and as BC said, just didn't have it. Not consistently. Chemistry was awful on that team. Now is that on Crean? Yes. Should it be? Dunno... Kind of had an old guard (Sheehey, Etherington, Howard, etc) vs. entitled younger players. That was one of his higher rated defenses, however. Funny how that goes up during the year we have zero offense other than Yogi playing Trey Burke's role Quote
Brass Cannon Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 That team did have talent it didn't have enough shooting though. Talent doesn't mean much if you have a giant hole in your team Quote
Walking Boot of Doom Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 I really don't know how to explain CTC, but this is crazy: "And now Indiana has to win just one of its final two regular-season games -- either Tuesday night's contest at Iowa, or Sunday's against Maryland at Assembly Hall -- to secure its second outright Big Ten title in the past four years, and people would be wise to recognize the accomplishment with context as it relates to Indiana and the Big Ten in general. First and foremost, it would be impressive by Indiana's standards because the school won exactly zero outright Big Ten titles in the 15 years before Crean was hired to replace Kelvin Sampson, who was forced to resign in February 2008 due to allegations of NCAA rules violations. That's zero. Over a 15-year span. And now Crean is just one win away from taking two outright Big Ten titles in a four-year span. So that's what it means for Indiana. But it's also impressive from a Big Ten perspective. Because do you know how many schools have won multiple outright Big Ten titles since Crean got the IU job in April 2008? Zero. Which means Crean is just one win from making Indiana the only school to win multiple outright Big Ten titles in the past eight years. In other words, Tom Crean is just one win from doing something Michigan State's Tom Izzo, Ohio State's Thad Matta, Michigan's John Beilein and every other Big Ten coach has been unable to do in the past eight years. Simply put, you have to try hard to hate on that. Because that is undeniably good." X-Hoosier Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 2013 vs 2016 Yogi vs Yogi 2016. 16 would eat 13. Jordy vs RoJo. Interesting match up Vic vs Collin. Hmmm lol Wat vs Troy. Wat for sure Cody vs Thomas. TB on bench from fouls Edit: I'd put Vic on Troy. (Turn over city) and C-Wat on Hartman. The 12-13 team would kill this year's team. Quote

Very true.....and sorry if anyone else has mentioned but im not here to read a book lol(some of you type some very long responses lol), but anyways im very happy with this program and how this year has went, but if you look at the overall product its not the greatest i suppose, two sweet sixteens and getting knocked out the first weekend last year...and missing the tourney all together in between there, with the amount of talent weve had (five burger boys) seems underwhelming. For now im rooting for this coach because hes been awesome this year and really turned things around.....but if we crap out in this tourney i think most will completely forget that we won a big ten title and go back to our old ways of bringing out the pitchforks coonhounds 1 Quote
X-Hoosier Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 There are no excuses to cover for Coach Crean when talking about the 13-14 team. That was a tourney team. That wasn't by any chance a 17-15 team. But Crean couldn't adjust to what we had. You don't need a ton of shooters to win games. For whatever dumb reason Crean still tried his offense of mystery and not pushing game pace off defense. Look at Louisville. Pretty much every year they can't hit the broad side of a barn from 3... no complaints coming from there because they play defense. And not just a sit back and hold them defense like Virginia. They play a defense to force the pace. That's what that team should have done. Instead Crean wanted them to be like the year before when they just weren't built for that. BGleas and WayneFleekHoosier 2 Quote

I agree that a win here should diminish the talk, but what would ultimately shut everyone up, is a final four or championship performance in the tournament. I would be satisfied with even an elite 8 appearance, but Crean hasn't made it past the Sweet 16 and the NCAA Tournament is the deciding factor to many of the fans. So well have to wait and see how we truly finish the season, and postseason off. Bittersince87 and LIHoosier 2 Quote
