TOM CREAN FIRED

Well then, under that standard we will have a situation in which:

  1. We reach out to Stevens and Donovan annually,
  2. They say no annually, and
  3. We have Tom Crean as IU's basketball coach indefinitely.

Hey, I never claimed I had the answer, I just want to point out everyone else's flaws. :107:

It was Hoiberg's pinnacle when he inherited a terrible team at IOWA STATE, stayed a total of five years, and never had a team with star quality future-NBA level talent.

So what successes does he hang his hat on? His history is unimpressive. We should not hire somebody with a record similar to Crean based upon potential. I want a clear upgrade. Somebody with success to show.

FIRE HIM! This is embarrassing

Yes!!!

Very accomplished coaches that could do amazing things at IUBB like Hoiberg, Archie, Mack, and Marshall.

Recently spoke with a family friend up around the lake areas in Indiana.  He is connected with Stevens that owns a residence on one of the lakes.  He quoted Stevens as saying that the one thing he truly enjoys since moving to the NBA is the increased amount of family time that he has acquired.  He also said that the NBA is not a 365 day job like in college.

Just saying...unless he is fired from Boston...there is no way in Hades he is making a move on his own that would take away that freedom.

Hoiberg was good enough to land an NBA job. That has to mean at least something. I'm very on the fence about him though. He was known for bringing in great transfers to carry his ISU teams. I wonder what his recruiting would be like here. You have to imagine this NBA experience would add to his recruiting pitch at IU. I'm open to him, just not convinced.

He left his alma mater to take that NBA job too. He was beloved there- where he's known as "The Mayor" of Ames, IA. Btw, I've been to Ames, that isn't much of a compliment. Anyway, will he always be looking for the next thing, or did he get the NBA out of his system?

FH never built a consistent high level winner thoigh. 12-6 isn't gonna get it done here in conference.

He didn't really give himself much time to do that. He was there for 5 years and the 1st year was rebuilding a pretty bad team. His 2nd year he took ISU to the tourney for the first time since 2005. Not much of a sample size.

I'm not sold on Hoiberg although I do think he'd be an upgrade.  His departure from Iowa State has some interesting undercurrents.  Several articles you can read at:

Looks like Stevens has been approched and has said no. (Per an insider on another IU board). Was a longshot but at least this should put to bed the Stevens to IU dream. That shadow can move away and we can find a quality coach.

Isnt Boston battling for the 1 seed in the East? Cant see a scenario where Stevens to IU plays out this year.

Fair but his ceiling was still 12-6 in conference.

Interesting. Hoiberg wouldnt have those issues here. The knock on Hoiberg is he didnt get it done with talent but that AD was a serious handicap to the program. Moving up the list.

I want us to beat Purdue as long as it doesn't save Creans job. If you told me that would be enough I would gladly lose our next 8 games

I'm in the same boat as brass on this. I'd be happy with it! I've been in and out this season since UNC game. And I've always been a gotta watch every second of an IU game type fan!
He should be gone anyway but losing those next 8 would ease my mind on what Glass would do. If that makes sense?

Rick Pitino left a Patrick Ewing led NBA playoff bound New York Knicks team where the president/owner begged him to stay.... Just saying, crazier things have happened.
