TOM CREAN FIRED

True but wouldn't Waters have to sit out a year since he has signed his LOI?

I'm 99% sure that's the case.

Not if they release him from this LOI which they will because its a PR nightmare not too.

As for everyone worrying and calling for Glass's head, just relax Crean is gone.  If Glass wanted him to stay he would have already came out and gave him a vote of confidence.  Especially when the Mizzou rumors were brought up.  His silence says it all.

The Louis King thread got me thinking.

Anyone else think Chuck Martin is vastly overrated. He was a recruiting guru for Calipari.

He's mostly fallen flat for Crean.

We get in ALL these top 10 and 5 lists and don't win much.

Anyway, I was hoping he was going to be the recruiting help Crean needed.

Crean's coming back boys!!! All because Fred Glass is as lame as Crean at doing his job. So for the people that say IU isn't an elite program they will probably be proven right within another year or two thanks to Glass.

They'd be nuts to release him from his LOI though without a valid reason from Waters.  This is almost unprecedented, as high school seniors only request releases from their LOI if there's a coaching change.  As of right now, that hasn't happened.

An example of this actually happened a few years ago in football with Eddie Vanderdoes of UCLA, who claimed he had a sick grandmother he wanted to be close to, rather than go to Notre Dame, after he had already signed his LOI.  Notre Dame denied him his release, it went to the NCAA, where they oddly ruled in favor of Vanderdoes, meaning he didn't have to sit out a year at UCLA.

This whole thing is strange.  The only PR nightmare that would ensue from this is if Georgetown had fired Thompson III, Waters asks for his release, but his request is denied by GTown.  The request for release always comes after the public announcement of a coaching change.

There is no excusable way for Crean to be brought back.  If Crean comes back it means Glass was lying about having expectations, it means he's an enabler that will settle for mediocrity, it means the coach being named Tom Crean is the only thing that matters to Glass because he's just a Crean fanboy.

Which means Crean will be the coach next year because Glass should've fired him before last season.

Crean is not coming back. Just relax and wait for the announcement

At what point of Glass's handling of the IUBB program makes you think he'll get rid of Crean?  He's made stupid decisions in regards to Crean before, how the hell should we trust him this time?

Instead of naming specific coaches that I would like to see at Indiana, I thought it might be helpful to do Fred Glass a favor and write a Help Wanted ad.

Wanted, one head basketball coach to takeover as the leader of a once storied and soon to be dominant blueblood program.  This coach must be a big boy, willing to both be the man in charge and to hold his players accountable for mistakes on and off the court.  Such mistakes may include turnovers and missing class, but must not include running over teammates with vehicles or being the guest of honor at a hash bash.

The coach must also intend to be a teacher who plans to increase the basketball IQ of his players with common sense principles like, "playing too fast does not eliminate turnovers, it causes them."   In addition the coach must be sure to let players know that the basketball program is interested in helping them obtain an opportunity to play basketball effectively at the next level, but this aspiration will not come at the expense of the team.  Being a "match up nightmare" is less important than playing excellent help side defense, and if you are a 6-10+ player with dominant potential in the post, footwork in the paint is exponentially more important than developing a 3 point jumps hot.

Confidence and humility are not contradictory attributes and we would appreciate both qualities.  If by chance you're interested and you're named Tony or Billy, our fans would appreciate it if you'd hurry the hell up and end your season.

P.S. if you are worried about living arrangements, don't be.  I've got an inside source that tells me one will be on the market shortly.

Sincerely,

Fred Glass

Athletic Director at Indiana University

(As long as I don't eff this up.)

If Crean really is struggling to find a new job then that should tell Glass all he needs to know. I don't get why the "soft landing" is so important. Sure, help the guy out if you can, but it shouldn't impact Glass's decision about firing him. We've given him $20+ million I think he'll be fine.

Well for one, Crean probably wanted an extension after last season and didn't get it. That tells me that Glass wanted to wait and see if Crean could build some consistency. Strike one. Two, IU was #3 in the country at one point this year and won't be in the NCAA tournament. Strike two. And three, Glass knows his job would be on the line if he brought back Crean when almost the entire fan base wants him gone. Strike three. Crean is out

For all those Archie lovers, I have recently spoke to those who are connected to him at Dayton, he does like to NOT play the booster game and has no interest in doing so. He'd rather stay in his basement and take in hoops as he's a hoops junkie. Just saying, just because the guy can coach doesn't mean he's the right fit for a place like IU.

Exactly. Crean can cozy up with his media pals for a season, then be the shiny new object when another handful of Top 8 conference jobs are available next year.

A soft landing is important for Indiana and Fred Glass' reputation with future potential coaches. Crean won the B1G Title, B1G Coach of the Year, and went to the Sweet Sixteen last year. Not a great show of support if you start firing coaches after that kind of year. Just a bad look. Doesn't matter what everyone here believes the standard is, or what they believe we deserve. Try to look at it from a third party perspective...

If I had to bet money, I'd say he's landing right here in Bloomington....
