Same question as in regards to Dane Fife but a different scenario obviously:

Would the people OK with Alford be OK with Alford if he didn't play at IU?

Asking for discussion's sake because I'm not really sure how I feel about it.

Great question. Based on 21 yrs of coaching and missing the Tournament roughly half the time, the answer is no. Not to mention never getting passed the S16. These are 2 of the arguments people say why Crean should be fired. It makes no sense.

The 'but' could be read in more in more than one way:
As in: "y'all didn't believe me but here he comes." Or
"I said before it was Alford, but things have changed."

I don't see two ways to read it at all. The second makes sense. The first does not.

I'm not sure I would even bother watching the games, that would be an awful hire.

He did say but at the end, that can be an awfully big word.

I noticed the but, too, but figured it's an abbreviation for something.  I'd been more intrigued if the smiley face was after the but.

This isn't really true. Most people would insert a smiley face or Kermit drinking tea or something like that after the but. And it would make just as much since as the second scenario.

People would pick him and for good reason. And I do think he's realistic. Not a done deal by any means but he's still in play

He's only realistic if he WANTS to come back to college. The other guys are already in college and therefore can make a decision on which school is best. Donovan is in a completely different category than the rest. Indiana won't lure him back to college basketball. He has to want to go back, then Indiana could be a good fit. HUGE difference.

Crean hasnt either. The Zeler Olidipo team was not good enough. Fans will argue it was, but the stats dont lie. The defense wasnt good enough. Just like Alords forst UCLA team was close statistically but not good enough  both teams failed in the sweet 16.

The only coach who has consistantly put out offenses and defenses together to win it all, not at a blue blood, is Gregg Marshall. People here dont want him. Bennett is close.

I am with you on Marshall. He is my #1 choice. Wins every year without the inherent advantages we have at IU.

There's been speculation that Donovan would like to come back to college. If that truly is the case, it's game on
