Walking Boot of Doom Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Agree. I was making a joke. Sent from my iPad using BtownBannersSaw someone mention it earlier that Crean still needed to "win" the MU job. Sorry for the confusion. That said, had a Mizzou alum friend text me saying how excited they were at the chance to get Crean. Believes Crean could turn the program around quickly (a few years) and make them relevant again in a conference where he just needs to beat the team he seemingly coaches his best against (Kentucky). Mizzou wants Crean, and he's such a great fit there. That program won't recruit itself, but Crean can recruit (I know many have questioned this) the type of players that will develop and become multi-year studs at a program like Mizzou. He brings energy and excitement to a program, which Mizzou sorely lacks given their miserable performance. He could also be a great champion for a campus that is failing culturally. They really need someone to bring momentum to the team and school. Crean is certainly a strong candidate for that kind of thing. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app I would agree a non-pUKe SEC school would be a good fit for him, they don't have the expectations that come with a historical blue blood. As for recruiting, I've said he's been overrated here as he's good but not great like he's often made to be. He hasn't shown to be particularly good in terms of roster or class balance. Quote
recker222000 Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Pretty vague answer tbh. I would be way more concerned if he said something like "look forward to being here next year" or "I want to be here for years to come". Nothing of that sort came out. Still think he's gone If Fred keeps quiet I think he is gone.Sent from my SM-J700T using Tapatalk Stromboli 1 Quote
coonhounds Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 That's not an article... that's a news release of an investigation into the entire situation by UI President Skorton. I'd recommend giving it a longer read through...Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile appI have read it and understand but still dont know all the facts. At least we agree iu should not hire him. Lets leave ot at that and hope we dont have to hash this out for the next 5 years lol. I think recruiting expectations of a blueblood (5 stars all day) are too high for him and he tried to meet those and flopped (The Movement, recent big misses). His sweet spot is that 50-150 range and developing those guys, which is beyond expectations of a program like Mizzou. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Dizz 1 Quote
Popular Post Stuhoo Posted March 9, 2017 Popular Post Posted March 9, 2017 Quoted statements Tom Crean could have made to Doyle if he chose to: "I will be the basketball coach at Indiana University next year." "I have no interest in any job other than the head coach at Indiana University." "Neither i nor any of my representatives have had any contact with any other school." "I will not be leaving Indiana University as long as Indiana is willing to keep me as head coach." By the way, when he chooses to, Tom Crean has the ability to very clearly state his love for IU and the job he has. Hollywood Mike Miranda, Class of '66 Old Fart, thebigweave and 6 others 9 Quote

This blanket denial would be a flat out lie if he moves on after the season. UNLESS Fred fires him. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners I've got to disagree with you here. I think in this instance the reporter asked a question that he had no business asking in this situation. Crean's denial isn't a matter of integrity in this case, it is a matter of protecting his team. Those kids deserve his best and the best chance to succeed in this tournament. He could have just been shielding his team from the distraction. It could be up for debate whether or not he acted in the best way, but being put on the spot is difficult. thebigweave, sirhoosierlot and Stromboli 3 Quote
hoosierknight1 Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Agree - did anyone notice the student manager in the background. When Crean said that the manager made two marks in his book. "No, that's not true," Crean told Doyel as he was preparing his Hoosiers for Thursday's Big Ten tournament game. "I'm doing nothing but coaching this team. "Normally, I don't comment on my job or any other open job, or on any speculation at all — and going forward, this is the only time I will do it, here to you — but I want to put that to rest. I'm coaching my team. I love coaching here." "I love coaching here" sounds kind of like Calipari's "Memphis is where I want to be" comment a week before he left for pUKe in the middle of the night. What's the running theory for our next coach?Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile appBilly D said no. But wait! Maybe he didn't, and we're still talking. Fred Glass was at the MVC tournament, and Jay Bilas says Gregg Marshall is Btown bound to relieve his goodie good twin of his coaching duties. Alford is involved in another cover-up, but this time it's his abismal tournament history (or lack there of considering he's missed it more times than he's taken his teams dancing) as he tries to convince Indiana that his resume is actually not a copy/paste of Crean's. Sean Miller is currently sweating through his shirt, wondering if it's time to leave the desert heat. And Brad Stevens is too busy living it up in Boston to answer calls from the annoying girl back home who won't give up on her love for him.
