Long time lurker, first time poster. Figured to go big with my first post. I hear Crean is definitely out, but I'm hearing a different replacement. I hear the next coach will be Pete Bell and he's bringing recruits Neon Boudeaux, Butch McRae, and Ricky Roe. Big time now!

Pretty much all the 'smoke' is isolated to IU boards though.

Don't get me wrong, I really hope so.  I would love to finally have a coach of that caliber on our sidelines, instead of a coach opposing fans want us to keep.  Donovan would instantly be the best coach we've had since Bob Knight.

I just think people need to temper their expectations here.  Convince yourself that Donovan is the coach, then pretty much anyone else is a letdown.  I think some of the 'smoke' is confirmation bias, his FL house being for sale for instance.  I know that one Orlando reporter made a reference, but I didn't listen to the audio to see what he was actually saying.

Pretty much all the 'smoke' is isolated to IU boards though.

 

We don't spend much time on our boards talking about NC States coaching search so I would not expect much from other boards on our search. That being said, someone linked a discussion on the Illini board discussing Donovan to Indiana and I am pretty sure there was a link from a Kentucky board as well. I don't have those links, just memory. Then you have the Florida radio guy and a couple of random tweets this week (grizzly and a guy named red). The chatter has been outside of the IU boards but it is the guys who are Indiana insiders and have had some early info before that are really fueling the Donovan fire.

Until the new coach takes over we don't know who we will get. So far though, of the linked names i would be good with the candidates

The thing is though, only one insider is saying it's likely going to happen. And that's the Btowninsider guy that popped up out of nowhere, so there is no way to know if he's just having fun with our fanbase or actually knows something. 0708 says it's possible but hasn't been definitive about it. And then you have another credible poster in Hickory who says it's a fantasy for us to get him. There's a lot of contradiction out there right now

I don't really remember what the Illinois board was going off of.  The pUKe thread was probably going off of rumors on IU boards, because that thread was really just them calling us delusional.  I thought those random tweets were a couple college kids trying to push a podcast or trolling.  I remember the Orlando radio host and I know he was pushing a podcast or something that I didn't listen to.

0708 has said a lot more than it's possible. He's heavily indicated that the new guy is not that far off if at all.

And that's where I read Btowninsider say there is no #3 option since the search ends at #2 (Donovan). Who knows

I think the whole issue is trying to let CTC find a spot so he can 'resign' vs. Fred doing a 'he gone' press conference.  Every day of silence from Glass just makes that clearer and clearer IMO.  All of the various boards are calling for a new coach and even many of  the nationally recognized sportswriters are suggesting it's time for both sides to move on.  If CTC were coming back at the very least Glass would issue a press release to the effect that negotiations for a contract extension were in the works and attempt to stop the rumors.  I also believe there is a date etched in stone for CTC to either have a new job or we get the 'he gone' press conference. Furthermore, I believe that Fred already has the replacement lined up and the new coach will be announced within 48 hours of CTC's resignation or termination.  Is it Donovan?  I have absolutely no idea but if it's not, the news will be tantamount to:

I wouldn't put much stock in someone that just started posting.  They trust 0708 over there and he's said he doesn't think the guy is trolling, but can't say the guy is legit either.

Personally, if I had inside information I wouldn't put 'insider' in my name.

He would only risk alienating the small fraction of the fan base that read these boards.

Compared to the size of the overall base, that is a small number.

Good point about the conflicting information. I would just assume I guess that with their solid info in the past and perceived closeness to the program that the info between them wouldn't be far off. But you have 2 very credible posters in 0708 and Hickory basically saying complete opposite things, which could support the smokescreen theory
