We may wish Crean was a goner already but let's not discredit what he has done either. Every coach has players that didnt pan out not just Crean but Crean has gotten everyone of his 5 stars in the NBA at this point and has also got 4 or 5 more guys. Some who were never looked at as NBA prospects before he got them. Diener, Novak, Matthews, Victor, and Troy. Heck even Yogi was gonna be difficult because of size. He may not have done the best but you could argue he did as well or better than he should would most of those kids. I think he could be better but he is actually respected through NBA circles. Every player that has left had the correct info. Yogi and Troy both said 2nd or undrafted. Victor knew he was a lottery pick as well as Cody and Noah. Yes mocks and scouts help too but let us not act like he didnt have anything to do with it. He just couldnt take those guys to the next step as a whole. I have always thought individually he did fine but he never grasped the talent together. I hate that he has made us a joke this year but I do wish him well just like any coach that comes here runs a clean program and stresses student athlete I would do the same for them. Doesn't mean I think they should always be our head coach.

Getting a 5 star to the NBA isn't difficult. I think 99 percent make it there. And JBJ will probably be the 1 percent.

I disagree that Crean is a good coach.  I'll say he shows flashes of being a good coach, but he shows just as many flashes of being a bumbling idiot.  Overall I'd say he's a mediocre coach, and a good not great recruiter.  There are worse, I'll agree on that front.

I don't think he's consistent enough to be considered a good coach. Good coaches know how to build rosters. Crean is horrible when it comes to roster management. Our good teams are almost always lacking an important piece and our bad teams lack several. Good coaches don't go through rebuilds as often as he does. His approach would probably work at a school that doesn't care about basketball where a sweet 16 every few years would make him a god, but he's in way over his head at IU.

I honestly cannot see IU making a change and telling Crean he is gone unless the new coach is a done deal. Why would Glass and Co. risk not getting a home run hire? What if they fire Crean and lose out on all of the desired coaches? I don't see them taking that risk. I would think, even as disastrous as this season has been, that Glass would stand pat or at least wait until the season was over to make a decision. If there is an ounce of truth to the rumor that Crean has already been told he's gone then they already have their guy. We just have to wait until the end of season for it to play out.

Troy was a top 55/60 recruit coming out of high school. He was described as being raw, since he mostly got away with just being way more physically and athletically gifted than the guys he was competing against in high school. Most people were talking about him being a draft pick after 2-3 years, and at worst as a senior. He doesn't fit with that group you listed as never being looked at as NBA prospects.

I dont really think many saw him as a NBA kid. Potential yeah but a lot of kids have the potential. Even top 60 kids in class each year arent gonna have a shot. Each draft has up to 4 classes of top 60 guys, foreign players and the ones who outplay their rankings. I get what your saying though just dont ever remember anyone truly thinking he was an NBA player at all until after his sophomore year.

Or maybe, as odd as it sounds, it was Crean's idea to leave?

Oh, snap, during the game they were talking about if IU makes a run in the BTT that they may sneak back onto the bubble.  Fortunately Tom Crean has an awful history in the BTT.

Correction...IU has an awful record in the BTT...does not really matter the coach.
