TOM CREAN FIRED

I agree. Crean at a football school would be an ideal scenario for him

especially one that also has an outstanding baseball program. Maybe Lemonis could release Riley from his baseball scholly and the Creans could all head to Baton Rouge. And Tom's already spent some time recruiting JUCO's in that area IIRC.

Riley probably doesn't even have a scholarship. Baseball only gets around 10-12 scholarships to divide up among a roster of 30 or so players.

Of course, this scenario would never happen, but......

Assuming that one had a chance to lure Donovan or Stevens to IU, but not until say, 2019/2020, would you consider approaching coach Knight about coming back for a one or two year contract to stabilize the program, heal the fan base, mend fences, then hand off to one of the two or more aforementioned coaches?

Be nice, I'm only tossing this out for discussion.

It's funny because I visit the Scout site some and they have convinced themselves that Donovan wants to come here and, if he doesn't, it will be Fred Glass' fault.  It's amazing what groupthink can do to a fan base.

I haven't seen anything either way on Donovan, but this may be the only time I could go for a 10 year contract. I'm sure his next one for Crean in his back pocket could get easily pencilled in with Donovan instead. Now that gives me faith!

Brownells on the warm seat at Clemson, but I think he could coach circles around Crean.

Interesting.

I recall him getting a lot of chatter among IU fans as a top up and coming coach before Crean.  It's the reason that selecting an unproven guy scares me - IMO, it's the riskiest strategy.

Count me as one who on the Brownell bandwagon when Crean was hired.  I still think he's a pretty solid coach, but things certainly haven't panned out as expected at Clemson.  Shows what I know!

Very true and this needs to change especially with the $ involved in college athletics. They have to be creative with other scholarships also.

If Donovan were to wake up tomorrow morning and decide he wanted to return to college coaching, he SHOULD want to come to IU because it's the best (potentially) open job out there during this cycle. But I don't think he wants to leave the NBA at least until he sees what OKC's front office does in the free agent market this off-season and how Westbrook responds to that. To date, I think Billy's W/L % with the Thunder may actually be lower than Brooks' was.

But whatever slim chance there is that Donovan might be interested likely wouldn't be for another year or so. And it would probably require a very aggressive, pro-active A.D. to convince Billy to make the move. IMO Glass doesn't fit that profile.

Its more due to Title IX and giving women an equal # of scholarships. Since football has 85, most mens teams don't have a scholarship for every athlete.

Westbrook is gonna go to the Lakers imo. He's from there, went to college there and he would truly be the man there. The Thunder are about to fall off the NBA map. Ergo, Donovan returns to college

He has a perfect storm to fight. He needs top level recruits to compete in the ACC which he hasn't gotten. He plays in easily the best league. And he has lost some close ones. I tell my many Clemson fans to be more patient with him. He should also parlay the football success to help his program more. He'll I would let Dabo help me recruit.
