But he's almost as unobtainable, sadly, as Brad is--especially THIS year. A year from now, if Westbrook heads back to the West Coast, could be a different story with Billy. I wouldn't be shocked to see an A.D. like Jurich or Barnhart be able to hire him away from OKC if that franchise slips out of the playoffs down the road. I just don't see Glass being comfortable with a guy like Marshall. Also don't see Bennett or S. Miller being seriously interested now. Few never has been interested. That basically leaves a bunch of guys with promise, but who haven't actually done as much yet as Crean had when IU hired him. This whole thing is shaping up as a career-making or career-breaking decision for Glass. It's funny because I visit the Scout site some and they have convinced themselves that Donovan wants to come here and, if he doesn't, it will be Fred Glass' fault. 8bucks Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 I would think that he is also trying to find a place his son could play baseball. That might make some places a little more complicated. I wonder if NC State is a good fit. Their current coach took them to the tourney his first two years then misses the next two. This year he had a very good recruiting class but they struggled because they were young. Sound familiar? thebigweave, ALASKA HOOSIER and theriverpilot 3 Quote

Yogi's Picnic Basket Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 To boot if I am not mistaken basketball is 3rd there. They honestly love all sports football is definitely number 1. I have 2 cousins that go there. After Simmons they take basketball more serious than they used to. Baseball as well. Sent from my LGLS676 using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
Yogi's Picnic Basket Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Absolutely amazing campus as well. I have been there 2 or 3 times last few years. 2 was to watch Ben Simmons last year. Sent from my LGLS676 using BtownBanners mobile app ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote
Yogi's Picnic Basket Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Frank Martin is being labeled a sleeper pick for NC State. Which would open up South Carolina. That and LSU would be perfect jobs. He would be even closer to his best friend Calipari.Sent from my LGLS676 using BtownBanners mobile app ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

Crean at a football school would be an ideal scenario for him especially one that also has an outstanding baseball program. Maybe Lemonis could release Riley from his baseball scholly and the Creans could all head to Baton Rouge. And Tom's already spent some time recruiting JUCO's in that area IIRC. Quote

Riley probably doesn't even have a scholarship. Baseball only gets around 10-12 scholarships to divide up among a roster of 30 or so players. Quote
TrueHoosier62 Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Of course, this scenario would never happen, but...... Assuming that one had a chance to lure Donovan or Stevens to IU, but not until say, 2019/2020, would you consider approaching coach Knight about coming back for a one or two year contract to stabilize the program, heal the fan base, mend fences, then hand off to one of the two or more aforementioned coaches? Be nice, I'm only tossing this out for discussion. Hoosier_roots and ALASKA HOOSIER 2 Quote

I'm sure his next one for Crean in his back pocket could get easily pencilled in with Donovan instead. Now that gives me faith! ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

I recall him getting a lot of chatter among IU fans as a top up and coming coach before Crean. It's the reason that selecting an unproven guy scares me - IMO, it's the riskiest strategy. I still think he's a pretty solid coach, but things certainly haven't panned out as expected at Clemson. Shows what I know! Quote

Very true and this needs to change especially with the $ involved in college athletics. They have to be creative with other scholarships also. Quote

It's amazing what groupthink can do to a fan base. If Donovan were to wake up tomorrow morning and decide he wanted to return to college coaching, he SHOULD want to come to IU because it's the best (potentially) open job out there during this cycle. But I don't think he wants to leave the NBA at least until he sees what OKC's front office does in the free agent market this off-season and how Westbrook responds to that. To date, I think Billy's W/L % with the Thunder may actually be lower than Brooks' was. But whatever slim chance there is that Donovan might be interested likely wouldn't be for another year or so. And it would probably require a very aggressive, pro-active A.D. to convince Billy to make the move. IMO Glass doesn't fit that profile. Quote
