TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

@Janitorinthegym: @Poppadontpreach the writing is on the wall.. The whole coaching staff is angry all the time.. That explosion after a win .. Topped it off

Granted Janitor thought Crean was gone last year too, and was singing this year's teams praises in the offseason.

Did I miss something? What explosion?

Is this regarding the way Crean acted during the 2nd half... sitting on the bench and not doing much actual coaching?

i think he was referring to him storming into the locker room and ripping off his jacket. Maybe the explosion came in the locker room or post game. IDK exactly either but I assumed it was end of game.

On TV they showed him "rushing" towards the locker room and taking off his jacket on the way. He didn't seem happy.

From there I was assuming/guessing the explosion that was referred to came after.

I don't know for sure. I also don't know why he was so mad in the first place unless the Priller chants actually did it.

Who knows, but he did rush/storm towards the locker room. Mostly all assumptions after that.

I will say he said last night that Saturday was the best we have played all season which makes me lean on the Priller chants being what upset him.

What is going on if so? Why would you be upset about player chants... Also in another thread it was said he didn't seem happy about Troy winning the Player of the Week Award...

Why would he not be as excited for MSB as the rest of the team obviously is.... Who cares if fans chant for him... EVERY single team that has a chance to play their "bench mob" in blowouts goes crazy when/if they score, both fans and teammates, why would this irk him so?

And why would a player winning an award from his team be a negative either? I get its a team game etc etc, but I don't get negativity towards positivity?

A lot of teams have a bench player who, for whatever reason, is a crowd favorite and will hear his name chanted in blowout games.  My god, we've had that over the years with our local high school team.  If that is indeed what upset CTC, then he needs to get a life.

too many assumptions for me to be comfortable but Janitor thinks he wants to force Priller into a transfer and realizes he can't as he is such a fan favorite.

My personal opinion is I agree with this theory but it could be entirely inaccurate.

From Insidethehall.

Fits here very well.

Are there fans who take things too far? Absolutely. But that’s true everywhere, not just with IU fans. It’s the nature of the world we live in with social media and communities like this one. There are always going to be trolls who make outlandish comments to try to draw attention to themselves or to bring others down. But overall, I believe people being able to make their voices heard is a good thing.

Ultimately, IU fans care about the program and want it to be successful. They’ve been more than patient. Given that this is year eight of Crean’s tenure, fans are justified in being critical and upset that expectations aren’t being met. When it crosses the line, I believe, is making things personal towards a player or a coach.

This is big time college basketball and in Bloomington, IU basketball is the show. It’s going to be analyzed, covered and dissected as such. It’s why a site like this even exists. To circle back on your original question: I would say IU fans are incredibly passionate about the program and the product and when standards aren’t being met, they’re going to be vocal. And to me, that’s completely fine when it’s done in a respectful manner. – Alex Bozich

I think the Priller chants are fun/harmless, but you have to admit it's probably a little embarrassing for Priller. 1) He's probably embarrassed at being called out so much more than other players. 2) He's a scholarship player that plays less than some walk-ons, and that type of reception is usually for a walk-on and often times a senior at that. Priller has been getting this since day 1. 3) Priller also probably feels partly appreciative of the applause, but probably also partly that he's being mocked. And let's be honest, he is being mocked when the crowd goes nuts like that for him.

I really don't think Crean was mad because he wants to force Priller out and the fan applause is going to make him stay. There are numerous reasons players transfer, and fan applause is probably pretty low on the list. I could be completely wrong, but if he was upset over the fan applause for Priller, it seems more likely to me it's because they're a little embarrassed by it all.

Every time Tom Crean opens his mouth, a little bit of our program dies.

Yep Wayne I agree. This is what Alex is talking about. This has nothing to do with basketball. This is what all boards want to do away with. Every IU board wants to get rid of posts or posters who only bring this. I know because I have been a mod on 3 of the major IU boards.

the award about troy was probably my post. I was listening to the coaches show and he didn't know about troy winning it and when he found out he said well that is good for him but he needs to start contributing more to the team or something to that effect. He just didn't act like I would have expected him to. I am sure he is happy he got the award just acted odd

I heard it, as well. He questioned his work ethic and said he needs to spend more time in the gym on his own time. You can tell there is some frustration there

This is beyond idiotic if true........I mean the guy signed him when everybody knew he was never going to be a B1G caliber player. No one to blame, but himself. I don't think it is, At least I hope to God it isn't.

Since this is the Fire Crean thread I'll spin it this way.... If he isn't spending enough time in the gym, if he isn't contributing enough to the team isn't it Crean's job to fix that or send him to the bench or something to get that point across?

I totally agree. Of course those who use the phrase "got creaned" get reamed, but it's exactly what happens. Crean has some sort of manic phobia of an open scholarship - and seems equally adverse to giving it to a walk-on for a year so that it does not go unused. The result of this is that he chronically oversigns players - some marginal at best. Of course I mean no disrespect to MSB (Priller), but I see Crean as a never satisfied with the current team. Of course he needs to be concerned about keeping the cupboard stocked for subsequent years after dealing with graduations, transfers, jumps to the NBA,etc...but it's almost like he's hoarding players. Some of those players don't (and maybe won't ever) measure up... so he forces them into situations where these marginal players leave of their own volition (more or less).

Why not just recruit your team and upgrade it year by year as opportunities present themselves? But you recruited these guys, make the best of the situation of your own making.

There you go again... trying to use logic and common sense in a situation that you clearly have no clue about... :scratchhead:
